Title: New 3-way monitor
Post by: Rick Craig on 30 Mar 2017, 12:26 am
Pardon the ugly test cabinet but it sounds much better than it looks! Scan-Speak beryllium dome tweeter, Satori mid (yes, the new one), and SB carbon fibre - Rohacell woofer. All using a modified Parts Express cabinet.

Interesting.
I had emailed you this week about possible Tempesta order. would certainly consider either one.
(also, if you know of anyone with your speakers in SoCal that would want to show them off let me know...)

Yes - thanks for posting. This is a tonally correct speaker; in fact, take advantage of the 45-day in-home trial. Rest assured you'll be keeping these!

Thoughts on the beryllium tweeter vs RAAL for someone who's never heard either?

Rick,

Is this tweeter the same one that you used in my Ancora center speaker? [I like it a lot.]

What are the dimensions, weight, frequency response, price, and crossover points? Curious about the crossover because Reference 3A has their Beryllium tweeter coming in rather low I think 1,000 hz.

Is that the crossover behind the speaker or is it for a different speaker?

The 45 day audition option is very attractive. Plenty of time for the customer to do some listening.

Thanks

Forgot a question. What is the efficiency?

Thanks

What's the array madness in the background. That looks like my kind of sub, if I could only talk Jen into 4 18s lol. What are the curved ones that look like our center?

No, but it's the beryllium version.

Beryllium vs RAAL tweeter for those of us that haven't heard either?

Sorry - crazy day and I missed answering your question. The dome is maybe a little bit softer in presentation with not as wide dispersion in the top octave. Not huge differences though, similar to a NY Strip versus a ribeye.

does it come in sealed and ported versions, or is this design exclusively ported?

Rick,

Which Satori "mid" is this, please? I'm trying to gauge dimensions here, and I learned long ago that I have a difficult time gauging sizes in photographs.

Thanks...

22" x 9" x 14.75", approximately 35 lbs. and response graphs just posted. The price is $2,400/pr. including shipping to the CUSA (gloss black and red cherry finishes). The crossover points are proprietary but the impedance graph will put you in the ballpark. That's part of the crossover showing in the picture with the optional Clarity ESA caps (Clarity PX is standard).

That's a large theater project. The curved cabinets are front height speakers but they also could be used as a center channel.

Sealed is an option;in fact, this woofer performs very well either way.

MR13P-4 which is the same size as the 13cm midbass used in the Ancora. If you look at the distortion curve I posted you'll see that it's an incredibly clean driver.

Hi Rick,
Maybe this is evident to everybody else but are you implying that the performance of this new 3way will beat or trump (sorry) the performance of the traditional Tempesta?

Cheers,
Lester

I wouldn't say that it trumps the Tempesta but does offer a really nice alternative at a lower cost. I've named it "Fedele" (Italian translation of faithful) because the tonality is very true to the source.

I received a call asking if a kit was available for this design. The answer is yes, and it's called the "Fedele".

$1,375/pr. including shipping to the CUSA. The kit includes everything you'll need except the cabinets, midrange subenclosures, and damping material.

I have just started putting the kit together and have built the interior sub-enclosures to update the parts express curved side cabinet.  I started talking with Rick about this project last fall and am anxious to see how it comes together.

I really like the relatively high efficiency for this size speaker and have always believed in the benefits of having the midrange do most of the heavy lifting through the vocal range.  I will try and post some pictures as I go along.
