I am something of a Metheny fanatic. It's great to see others have caught on :thumb:

Secret Story is quite possibly my most favorite single album of all time- I highly recommend checking it out. It was just remastered and reissued, too.

Pretty sure it's mine too. I didn't buy the remaster yet, although the original is pretty incredible. I saw him Nov 10th in Virginia Beach and the show was incredible.

The 15th January... 1967......but you have to change the words. :nono:

This day on Ed Sullivan....
A compromise was reached to substitute the words "let's spend some time together" in place of "let's spend the night together"; Jagger agreed to change the lyrics but ostentatiously rolled his eyes at the TV camera while singing them. Notice how he rolls his eyes back wen saying those words....

I didn't know there were so many people with great musical taste here! I'll have to post more often.

Gentle Giant, Niacin, Chambers, McLaughlin, Paco, etc! And Maxophone! One of the best "one and gone" bands ever.

Here's a couple you some of you might be interested in -

Modern fusion from Alex Machacek/Matt Garrison/Jeff Sipe. Machacek is a true phenom on guitar.

I've never seen Genelecs that look like that, if you mean what you see at 4:25, Rick.

They look like this:  http://www.genelec.com/products/?c=USA

I can't remember any Genelec without an obvious waveguide for mid and highs.

That said - I don't know what the ones at 4:25 are!!

Sorry, but to be honest I find it fairly disturbing that this is considered good music, let alone music. I hear in this almost nothing but an endless string of poorly executed contemporary "music" cliches. The visuals are similarly unoriginal, yet the comments suggest that this is genuinely moving for many - even the creators. In my imagination, this would be on the screen in a waiting room in hell.

Interesting how my opinion differs so extremely from yawdamper, yet if we met we'd probably get on OK (unless either one of us had control of the music).

Something interesting from a newly formed group... UKZ

" UKZ is a virtuoso supergroup formed by former 'UK' keyboard/electric violin legend Eddie Jobson with ex-King Crimson stick player Trey Gunn; Austrian guitar prodigy Alex Machacek; former Expanding Man vocalist Aaron Lippert; and German drumming phenom Marco Minnemann."

Okay, somafm.com happens to be a very worthwhile station(s). But, I do agree with your assessment of the aforementioned track. Yuck! :|

But don't dismiss downtempo lounge... 8)

Using  J.River Media Center, I'm listening to Groove Salad on Soma.FM right now in 128k mp3 streams and it's sounding pretty damn sweet on my system. :thumb: I'm a big fan of New age music of all types, it reminds me of my drug-induced happy days of many years ago. aa I've never listened to Soma before, I definitely need to bookmark this for as long as it's able to stay on air in times like these. :duh:

Thanks for the heads up Eargasm.

Cheers,
Robin

Now you'll be hooked, Robin! Been doing downtempo lounge, progressive house, trance "dance music" for so long that I forget that there are folks who are not yet hip! Another one of my favorites is radioparadise.com. They have an 128k AAC+ stream that sounds great. And really good music, as well. I've been listening to Rusty and SomaFM for over 5 years. I try to give them about $50/yr. for the privilege.

-Eric

Windows ACC+ doesn't seem to work with J.River even tho I loaded the Orban plugin, must be only for Windows Players. Regardless the MP3 128k sounds pretty damn good. I have used ACC+ in the past with both WMP11 and Winamp but since moving to USB computer audio, I'm totally into J.River Media Center for hard drive album playback. I do still have Winamp and I use to use that player exclusively for streaming audio. I may have to dig it out and compare the players with Soma.FM,,, J.River's 128k mp3 against Winamp's ACC+. :D

Cheers,
Robin

This rec is Classical piano and it's not on Youtube, but it's the most spectacular recording of a piano that I own. "20th century Russian piano music" performed by Vladimir Yurigin-Klevke, on Delos DRD 2008. The first piece, Ciaconna by Sofia Gubaidulina, just jumps out and grabs you with the shattering sound, and explosive dynamics. The realism of the upper registers of the Grand piano is uncanny. It reminds me a little of the Direct Disc LP Piano recordings of yesteryear; the best of which could put a Grand Piano in the room with you. The next selection, Partita by Arvo Part is just as impressive. If you are into classical piano at all, or just want a good demo disc of Piano music, this is a good one. The only criticism: the bass lacks a little warmth and impact.

Early 1990s.  Used to go to Tower Records just across the street from Berklee to buy Stereophile mags.  My first real Audiophile purchase was an AR ETL-1 turntable with Rega Arm and Grado cartridge - CHEAP!  That's when everyone one selling off their turntables to buy "better" new to market CD players.  Time to go and work on my CD - that video inspired me. Will share it with the audiophile community when it is done.  Need to find a studio with an engineer with really good ears around here.
Sorry WAY off topic.  Thanks Rick!!!
