Welcome to the "Vintage Circle" at Audiocircle. This is an area devoted to the discussion of audio equipment and material from the earlier days of High Fidelity. We hope to make this an enjoyable and friendly place to discuss all aspects of "Vintage" Hi-Fi. Lively discussion is encouraged, but PLEASE keep normal forum rules in mind.
1. No Commercial Posts are allowed here. Private offers to buy and sell equipment should be posted in the "Marketplace Circle."
2. "Flame Wars" (and other disruptive behavior) will not be tolerated. This does NOT mean you can't voice disagreement. It simply means that we don't take kindly to personal attacks.
3. NO SPAM OF ANY KIND will be allowed. No Nigerian banking schemes, no pharmaceutical offers, no "massage therapy" posts. We are interested in AUDIO here.
4. We encourage "lively" discussion, but PLEASE try to keep profanity or material of an "adult" nature out of the discussion. If you wouldn't say it to your Mother, *try* not to say it here.
5. With all that in mind, HAVE FUN! This circle can be an AMAZING resource for people who have discovered that "Vintage Audio Gear" can be an AMAZINGLY inexpensive alternative to today's ULTRA Expen$ive "High-End" equipment.
If you have any questions about this area of Audiocircle, feel free to contact me, but PLEASE realize that while I am now in the "Vintage" category myself, I am still actively employed, so it might take a bit of time for me to respond to a personal message or an e-mail. I promise to do the best I can.
With all that out of the way, let's have some FUN!
Sincerely,
Bill Thomas

Congrats on your Facilitatorship Mr. T. :thumb: While I haven't made any moves to the Vintage arena as yet (short of plans to resurrect an old TT), I have viewed many of your project posts with awe and appreciation. The quality of your work, and the step by step explanations to those who might wish to attempt similar projects is top notch. Thanks for those posts. I hope they will continue as time allows, and I look forward to what I'm sure will be interesting and beneficial information available in this Circle. :D

Thanks, Arthur. Those are mighty kind words. I'll try to live up to them.

Congratulations, Bill!!
Change is a good thing, thanks to TCG for holding the reigns and for passing them on to a well-suited replacement.
Bill, have thoroughly enjoyed your vintage rebuild threads, keep up the excellent work.
Thanks,

This circle always gets my attention. My system often has at least one piece in it that is "vintage". Glad to see Bill take up the circle. Can't think of anyone better qualified.
-
Congrats Bill. Good luck your facilitatorship. I have several "vintage" pieces as evidenced in my system listing below.

Hello Bill (and everyone else),
I've just joined the Audio Circle moments ago. I don't see a place for introductions but since my system is all vintage Carver stuff, your circle seems like the right place to be. I've just added my system and this is my first post. Anyway, just saying "Hi" for now and checking out all the cool systems and circles :thumb:

Geeze, those Carver guys are everywhere... and it's good to see a familiar name :D

PDR, Balok, dokblues, they're around somewhere or other on here. This is a good site, there's a lot of circles to hold your interest.

Well, you can get some! And you can get em' cheap if roll your own.
If you really want to know how they sound... go for it! (you won't be disappointed)

Yet another thing to throw on the ol' project pile! Perhaps after I finish rebuilding my guitar amp... PCB's are over-rated. :thumb:

I'm afraid that Bill Thomas passed away before I got here so I never got to know the man.
As this circle was in wont of a Facilitator I've volunteered to do it.
I figured that most of my junk is pretty old so why not.
With any luck we can make this circle a bit more active.
The same rules as Bill had (or the Planar Circle has) are in effect.
If you want to fight, get married as that old saying goes.
Otherwise, have fun.
P.S.
I believe that a Facilitator is very similar to an enabler so I encourage all of you to start scouring Craig's List, Estate Sales, the minefield that is eBay and the like to get yourself some "new" goodies to deplete your bank account, estrange your spouse, enrich your life and to share with us.
-
Thank you, Steve :thumb:

Sounds like a plan!

Thanks Steve. You just crossed over to the dark side.

Thanks Steve. You just crossed over to the dark side.
That only happens when you let out the Magic Smoke.

Congrats on the new gig Steve! Thanks for volunteering.
I'm hoping I can get as turned on here as I have at the CS.
ps. Will I have to go through this verificataion BS every time I post or do I eventually graduate to a trusted member? Maybe I should read the rules.
Oh! BTW what's with the 1001 fetish?
-
The first couple of posts have to be approved to keep out spammers and nut cases.
I have no idea what you mean by the 1001 fetish?

Hi all,
Love learning about hifi of yesteryear! Look forward to adding some pics of my gear and hopefully finding others who might know more about my stuff. Right now, been collecting Audio Matiere gear and Counterpoint Clearfield speakers :)
