I'm considering buying a used BDP-1. Is this able to play the RP flack stream?
-
I don't think so.
I asked this question of James (who is a fan of RP) who referred it on to Chris but no response. It does support 320kps using a URL that James provided on this forum. I suspect it needs a small app to be built to support FLAC.
I have streamed RP FLAC to the BDA-1 using Apple Express and the SQ is excellent.
RP is now a very powerful internet station so I hope we can get Bryston to fully support it.
Chris - comments?
-
Thanks Tezza,
Apparently RP's FLAC is not a stream. Im listening to the FLAC version using a macbook running jRiver. Its wayyyyy better than the 320. I will not make the move to a BDP-1 if it cant play the cd quality version of RP.

James / Chris - are you please able to comment on this? It would be a great capability to have on the BDP!
Thanks
-
Tezza and I are asking for a yes or no. Shouldn't be that difficult.
-
Chris tells me he’s working on it

Great news! Does that mean that it will be released as a firmware update when tested?

MEMO: To All Bryston Customers
SUBJECT: 2019 Radio Paradise FLAC Streaming – Bryston BDP-3
May 2019
Hi Folks,
Radio Paradise recently started offering a music streaming service which is now available in a LOSSLESS FLAC file at 44.1/16Bit resolution.
I am pleased to report that we have a BETA for our Bryston BDP-3 Digital Player to access these files. Normally radio streaming is 128K or 320K but this Lossless FLAC streaming sounds superb.
Here is an example of the Manic Moose GUI playing a track from Radio Paradise.
The software is in BETA form now and can be downloaded for those that want to give it a try on their BDP-3. (Please email Bryston for instructions – jamestanner@bryston.com)

Will this later be available on the BDP-1 as well?

I will ask Chris but I think any of the BDP's will work.

This is very good news!
I'm obviously interested in the answer as well.

I'll try to find some time to test this, I have a BDP-1 still running in my home office I can test it with.

Did you get some time to test this on the BDP-1 Chris?

Did you get some time to test this on the BDP-1 Chris?
I haven't been spending much time in my home office these past couple of weeks but i did start the stream and it did play for roughly twenty minutes before I headed off to bed.
-
I tried it again on the BDP-1 and it didn't want to start streaming, so it might be a BDP-2, 3 and Pi only feature.
Chris
-
Ok Chris. Good to know.
-
Don't know what I am doing right but I have been listening to Radio Paradise FLAC on my BDP-1 all day in my office each work day since May 6th running MM S2.40 2019-05-02 beta.
There have been a few glitches along the way but all in all it has been great listening experience.
-
Its certainly different. Sounds a step up from the AAC / MP3 streams.
-
Its great sound folks - can't say enough about how much better it sounds than all the other streaming services I have tried.
