Building Speaker Stands for Super 3'S

Yes, I know about the fine Skyland stands, and may go with them. It should be a no brainer, but I have the luxury of  being able to have some built for me at work. The question lies with the materials I would be using.  We make drilling rigs and the shop is full of "steel" tubing and plate. I could have welded up anything that would work.  If I went nuts, I could have them sitting on a 4" thick base. In fact, I could replicate the Skyland stands in steel.  My concern is that steel does ring like a bell when you tap on it. Can anyone see a downside to doing this?

With thick enough tubing and filling with play sand/shot you shouldn't have a problem with acoustics (but maybe with back injury from moving them or permanent damage to flooring) from the excessive weight.  But excesses is what being an audiophile is all about.

Hi Smitty,

jlm is right and with enough filling they will sound good. Also Sanus makes a great wood stand for around $50 a pair.

Thanks again,
Louis
