BDP1 and Qobuz 24/96
« on: 13 Jan 2020, 07:43 pm »
I’ve been trialling Qobuz, so far using Roon with BDP1 as endpoint and with excellent results.

However today I thought I’d try using the BDP1 directly with Qobuz.  I’ve tried several of  my 24/96 favourites and was surprised to see that according to both the BDP media player pane and the sample rate indicator  on my DAC, they are indeed playing as 24/96. I thought that, when playing Qobuz directly, the BDP1 was limited by Bryston to 16/44?  Mine is on MM 2.42.

Not complaining (!), just surprised.

Anyone able to confirm or explain this?

Was the BDP1 ever limited to 16/44 with Qobuz and if so, has this limit been removed in latest MM?

Hi

The BDP-1 was always capable of 192/24 - Chris can confirm.

Yes the BDP-1 has always been able to decode this format, but with our original implementation of Qobuz we had to place a limitation due to the size of the files and the lack of system memory to buffer the entire track.  Some files where larger then all of the system memory available, let alone space needed, plus what the system needed.  The new method only holds up to a few MB at a time and requests more data from Qobuz as the data is played back, overcoming the BDP-1's severe memory limitation.
