Can this approach be used with laminate?
Thinking of the gloss black 909. My wife is not into the "woody" look... so that is what I am leaning toward and this seems more economical to a painted finish.

When I worked with gloss laminate it scratched very easily.  It has a protective plastic on it for a reason.   Also the edges are not very attractive and all those sharp edges will present a lot of occasion for chipping during shipping and while moving them around.  All in all, IMO this would be a step, or two, down from Reuben's very fine work.

Although maybe Ruben has a different take on this.  Also, maybe a mix of materials so you don't get the seam from adjoining edges.

Thanks very much for that. Didn't realize it was that fragile.

A satin black paint finish would be pretty economical, it is the gloss paint finishes that are so labor intensive.

Thanks very much for that. Didn't realize it was that fragile.

Hey Don,

Not there yet.

I've not had a lot of time to work on them since making the announcement. I need to finalize some details before I'll know where the numbers will end up. As soon as I set everything in stone I'll start a new thread showing how the system works and what each kit costs.

Thanks,

Ruben

As was mentioned, the high gloss laminate is prone to scratching easily.

However, as long as you don't scratch it, it does just fine! :P

I have a couple of ideas on how to incorporate laminate into these kits that would look very nice. I'll post a laminate option in the official QFES thread.

Thanks!

The average DIYer can get a decent looking veener job with enough time and patience.

Absolutely! :D

The pre-veneered kits are for those who, for whatever reason(s), would rather not have to handle the veneering aspect themselves.

Those who'd prefer to apply veneer themselves will have the option of purchasing the QFES raw.

:thumb: Are you planning on using dowels or do you have something else in mind? When you mentioned this idea I thought of the furniture kits that you get at the big box stores that an idiot could put together. Of course, done with quality!

Was just wondering if you made any progress on your construction system, Ruben.  Sounds very interesting, just not sure how it would work and how the finished product would look.

Hi Ruben-

Just curious...how much would it cost to build Super V enclosures?

Hi khill,

$1500-$3500 (plus freight) depending on materials and finish.

Build and finish quality are furniture grade across the board.

Thanks,

Ruben
