As a fact i asked Danny about that same thing today.
Danny has had his hands full getting the AV1 xover tweaked as well as the criterion with changes to the pages for them as well as the new sub page as well.
Then the AV1RS.
AS well as Home Theater package page coming as well.
Like how is
#1 3 AV1 (center and fronts)and 2 AV1RS kits for around $500.00
#2 1 AV1 (center) 2 AV3S (mains) 2 AV1RS kits for around $575.00
#3 3 AV3S (center,mains) 2AV1RS  kits for around $630.00
#4 2 AV3 (mains) AV1 (center) 2 AV1RS kits for around $620.00
#5 2 AV3 (mains) AV3S ( center) 2 AV1RS kits for around $660.00
Then all the packages for those wanting 6.1 system -9.1 systems add
AV1RS kits for $100.00 each to a HT kit package to make your 6.1-9.1 systems.

Then I have been working on the Cabinet packages for them all.
#1 $660.00 Oak
     $685.00 Black Oak
     $700.00 Maple ,Cherry

#2 $725.00 Oak
     $750.0  Black Oak
     $799.00 Maple,Cherry

#3 $745.00 Oak
     $770.00 Black Oak
     $800.00 Maple,Cherry

#4 $1100.00 Oak,Black Oak, Maple ,Cherry

#5 $1200.00 Oak,Black Oak,Maple,Cherry
With add on AV1RS cabinets each being $99.99 to the above cabinet  packages.
With custom veneer options as well Anigre Figured, Birds Eye,Figured Maple,Teak,Walnut to name a few.
These are all cabinet packages from RAW ACOUSTICS.

With the issues from this week end he was in another place and time getting that issue dealt with ASAP.
All in time but one one set of hands.
Keep plugging Danny.

Sorry all forgot to add a few items.
These are prices for the sub cabinets for the new GR sub woofer.
As I have had a few orders placed for those wanting to order cabinets before the drivers arrive.

18" cube .75" MDF with 4 braces   MDF           $120.00  Black textured $170.00       Veneered $250.00
18.5" cube 1" MDF with 2 braces ADD$35.00 each
19" cube 1.25" MDF no braces     ADD$60.00 each
Cut for customers drivers, amp or terimal cup

I have made the cabinets cubes for easy of shipping only.
A packaging issue is very costly on custom sub cabinets and to make the best use of materials I have these sizes of cabinets to be proper packaged in a 24" shipping box with 4" or more of foam around for proper protection.

Thanks
Al

First off got the kit from Danny had a few surrounds in MDF just had to pick the finish.
Well ask wife, she said let me think on it.
She looked over the stock of 20 plus kinds of veneer, sent her to my supplier for veneer let her look.
She gave the word.
PAINT them same as the walls. And she did just that painted them.
What I said , well ok.
After a few days of getting work out the door and building a few new projects as well as assembling 40 Criterion and Diluceo I got time to finish the AV1RS.

I have shot a few picks and if I get time in the next few days I will post the pictures of them as well as the install.

I installed them in my HT room which is 12.5' X 22'
All walls ,ceiling are filled with 705 insulation, Acoustic batting, covered in 40lb roof felt then drywall.
The floor is a floating floor from HD panel system sweet to install.
Carpet with 1/2 high quality felt under lay.
Rear deck is filled with sand and acoustic fill.
The first show I watched tonight after installing the AV1RS JP3(Jurassic Park 3) my little ones pic.
Front speakers were 3 Diluceos with a Diluceo in the rear center. For 6.1
And twin AV1RS surrounds mounted 15" from the ceiling,I know Danny may have said lower but I have my room pre wired so it was put them were the wire is.

Played film in DTS after  setting up the room with meter to center position sub set as well.
Got the film going and first off wife is saying very very loud.
I stopped the movie to show her she is now getting side surround effects she had never listened to before in a movie.
At the opening scene after the plane is torn apart and the 2 large dinosaurs start at it and swinging each other side to side these AV1RS brough out details I never knew were there.
The whip of the tail made me duck and I have never done so before in this room with all the different speakers I have had in the room.
With  this being the first time listening to them I was knocked out of my chair more than a few times with side effects of motion front to rear.

All I can say is job well done Danny.

Too funny.

I just ordered a pair of A/V-1RS's from Danny and I'm sure my wife's going to say the same thing, even though my A/V-3s were finished in Rosewood.  Looking forward to checking these out.  The A/V-3s are among the best speakers I've heard (and I've heard a lot of them) for under $3K.

It's has been on my "to do list" for too long.

I just have too much to do right now.

I plan to have it up before I leave for the show in Denver next month, and hopefully sooner.

I have a suggestion for the cabinet design.

Instead of flush mounting the back top and bottom panel, recess them about 1/8". This will allow the speaker to mount much more flush to the wall. It's an old cabinet makers trick. You don't have to deal with the irregularity of the wall that way except for the outter edges. Generally the cabinet maker will scribe the edges for a perfect fit against the wall but that would be crazy for mounting surround speakers. The extra benefit from slightly recessing the two plates on the back of the speaker would be well worth the effort though.

Looks like an interesting design. Very innovative design. You must get no sleep at all!!! :D  I am starting on my Alpha LS cabinets hopefully this weekend. We just had our second child three weeks ago. So sleep has been limited. Great job Danny!!

Uaaaau !!!

I've to say that it has taken 10 minutes to understand the concept of rears "firing up".

It actually is a solution for my situation. I have the rears rigth now close to my ears. That is the only solution wife will accept as far as locating the rears on the back wall.

While I have to say that I have still doubts abt the proposal of "indirect" sound is a concept that "intrigues" me.

Now, the question is ...

- Does the AV1R's uses same components as regular AV1 ?

If that is the case I can buy the AV1 kit and play a little bit with the MDF and see if I like the results of the AV1R.

Yes same quality of parts as well a upgrade as noted in the thread by Danny .
Danny does not have them up yet but I do.
Same price from me or him.

Yes a issue with those everyday rooms were the rears are located at ear level  these will just fill the bill GREAT.
And Side surrounds as I have in my system I demo.

Same parts quality and drivers but the crossover type and values are all very different.

The A/V-1RS takes all wall reflections into account as part of the response.

Sensitivity on the A/V-1RS is 90.5db where the stand mounted A/V-1 is 86db.

A pictures worth a thousand words?

For rear surrounds it works perfectly. It adds a sense of space and distance that you just can't get from other approaches.

And there is no amount of digital delay that will change that. The sound will always emanate from the point the speaker is placed.

OK, my mind is now more clear, only one small Q. (then ready to order)  :D

Since the sound is "reflected" ..

- Will actually be worth the sonycap upgrade ?

All is in stock and ready for shipping. You will have to call to order, or I am glad to call you to take your order.

I tend to think the gain in clarity from the caps will be less significant for this application.

For most people will the added gain be noticeable or worth the cost? Probably not.

Total kit cost then is only $229. for the pair.

Hey Danny, I currently have the av-1 speakers for my surrounds and am thinking about building the av-1rs. You say no resistors are used in the tweeter circuit and a smaller inductor value is used in the woofer circuit. What would I need to convert my av-1 crossover to the av-1rs crossover or would it be OK to use the existing crossover and just build new cabinets?

Simply buy the crossover compoents for the A/V-1RS and build new cabinets.

See the PM I am sending you. I'll make you a deal on the parts.

Thanks, Danny. One more question. The rear wall of my listening room is a padded wall. fabric with batting or fiberfill behind it. It's about 1.5 inches thick. I suppose it is good for the room acoustics but I'm wondering how is will affect the AV1-rs. I might have to double up on the mounting board attached to the wall. Do you see any problems with mounting these speakers on a padded wall?
