24/96 file being recognized as 48 Khz
« on: 1 Dec 2016, 10:15 pm »
I just picked up an Oppo 103D, this is used in conjunction with my Marantz SA8004 while I'm doing some A/B testing between the two...so far I like the 8004. However, the 8004 doesn't play DVD-A discs so I was playing Fleetwood Mac Rumors on DVD-A using the 96Khz stereo layer but I'm only seeing 48 Khz on the display of the 8004.

I'm using digital coax out from the 103D to digital coax in of the 8004. Unfortunately the 8004 only takes files greater than 48 Khz through the SPDIF and not USB like the 8005 so this has been my dilemma on keeping the 8004.

So I'm just curious as to why the 8004 is only displaying 48 Khz with a 96 Khz input signal.

Any thoughts?

A little late, but ...

Some DVD-A players would not output digital above 48 kHz. This was a form of copy protection. I am not sure if it varied by disc, but I think so.
