Looking for your Best Jazz Guitar Recommendations
« on: 27 Oct 2010, 12:59 pm »
Being a guitarist myself, I've always been fascinated by Jazz Guitar although I'm not very proficient in that style.

I was hoping we could compile a list of great Jazz Guitar albums here, past and present, as I'm sure there are plenty I don't have and need to seek out.

Thanks,
Greg

Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue needs to be on any list, let alone the jazz guitar one.  The Analog Productions SACD recently released is quite an amazing version.

In a more modern vain, Bill Frisell's catalog is amazing, but my fave I keep going back to is "gone, just like a train"

Both of Ted's selections are superb.  :thumb: You also can't go wrong with Wes Montgomery.

Emily Remler. An amazing talent and, tragically, she wasn't with us for long. Heavily influenced by Wes Montgomery but uniquely her own person. Try East to Wes as her most representative album.

Or for that matter any of Grant Green's early stuff

This is very early in Benson's career and his guitar playing is way different (better IMHO) than later in his commercialized albums.

Any of Metheney's recordings,  early George Benson, Ralph Towner, Larry Coryell, Kenny Burrel, Charlie Byrd, Wes, Pizzarelli (father and son), Earl Klugh,  if you want rockier stuff go to Al Dimeola or Stanley Jordan...

I know I'm missing a ton of players, but this is off the top of my head.

There are so many - and a lot of them have already been listed. Here's one a lot of people don't know. Danny has been on sooooo many recordings.

I got it from his website http://www.dannycaron.com/
