Do open baffle speakers need somewhat different considerations when planning out room treatments compared boxed speakers? One big difference I would think matters is that the highs would be bouncing off the front wall where they would not be otherwise.

I think not, you only have to 'play' with position in the room. They tend to be sensible about that.
