Hey fellow gamers.....
Tonight my plan was to buy my kids a Wii for Christmas. They've been wanting one for a while now, and of course they want it installed on my system.
My question is this:

- I'll be getting the optional wireless sensor bar (due to distance from the equipment rack) would it have any problems seeing the controllers when it's got a projector beaming light in it's direction?

- Is the the wireless sensor bar compatible with a 10' wide screen?
--- Meaning can it "see" movement with that much width?

- And any other issues I haven't thought of regarding a Wii and my rig.

Thanks fellas
Bob

Hello Bob,
I do not have the wireless bar but do have the Wii and a wide screen. I can tell you the range on the bar is exceptional. There have been time when one of my little ones was in the bathroom when his turn came up to bowl. Knowing the motions, he simply took his turn while sitting on the john. (he gets strikes this way too ).

I will have to try it out with my projector but I think you'll be okay as you can always position it away from direct light.

Be carefull with the Wii....very addicting, even for adults.

The sensor bar actually does the emitting, it will work just fine.

Wow, you've got your work cut out for you.

Ok, good deal guys. Looks like this might just work.

Are there any other projector guys that have had any problems?

Thanks fellas  :thumb:

The sensor bar has infrared LEDs which the wii remotes sense. Again, the projector should present no problems.  :thumb:

Wow, I never thought about a Wiki on the Wii. That's one of the most informative (technically speaking) Wikis I've ever seen.
Thank you for that.

The only thing that worries me, is they say incandescent light can have adverse affects.
The area of my room you'd stand in while playing the game is directly under 6 recessed lighting cans.  :duh:
{These can be seen in my avatar}
Oh well, I'll figure something out.

Good info keenween, thanks!!

Hi Bob,
We use it with the FP, no issues at all.  This is the wired sensor, I don't have experience with the wireless.  Bowling on the big screen is really cool, it's like you are looking down the alley!  All that is needed is some bowling alley french fries smelling up the place.  You will be very surprised at how lifelike the ball control is.

Best,
Ed

BTW, we have a lamp on when using it on the FP, but when using it in it's normal location (my sons gamng corner) the room is oftn fully lit with no adverse effects.

Ok good deal Ed, thanks!
I like the idea of the fries. Maybe some of those bowling alley hot dogs too!  aa  And bowling alley beer!

Personally, I can't wait to play a first person shooter with the NES Zapper thingy.  :icon_twisted:

No problem Bob.  A little OT but take a look at what this guy has done with the Wii bar and controllers.  Scroll down to the YouTube video and watch it!

Whoops!!  Thanks Bob.

Shoot....I meant to check that link at home last night (no speakers here at work). I forgot all about it.  :(

Well, I got the Wii along with "Wii Play", and a wireless emitter* last night for $347.
Of course I'll have to hook it all up while the kids are gone.......just to make sure it works of course.

*Note the word "emitter" which is what keenween alluded to when he said the controllers "sense" the wireless device. I thought it was receiving the signal from the controllers, but reading the Wiki article set me straight on that.

Should be fun.
