Are there any other values i can use in this position, i have seen 50UF being used.
Will 38UF be OK?

Sure, anything in the ballpark will be ok.  Don't go higher on C10.  The others you can make bigger.

Is 50uF too high for C10?

I already substituted and installed a 50uF for C10.  Is it too high?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom

What sonic changes did you notice with the 50UF
is it a PIO?

Yes. they are PIO.

Yes, they are paper in oil from Angela.  I have not finished assemblying the Cornet Octal yet because I am still waiting for a couple parts to arrive.  I remember it was mentioned that the value of these caps was not critical in the circuit and the closest value of these PIOs is 50uF.  I have all the holes cut and the 5 caps (C2, C4, & C10) mounted already, then I saw Jim saying do not go bigger on the C10.  I hope a differece of 3uF does not matter.

I will report on the project when it is completed.

Hi Tom
Im nearly ordering from angela, but the xmas battering on my credit card is holding me back and unfortunately there is nothing like that available in the UK.
At present i have 47UF rubycon in place, with Mcaps in the IRIAA place's. Also AN tant resistors in IRIAA. The detail is great but it lacks body and can cause some fatigue.
So i am also thinking of trying riken ohms aswell.

Regarding the 47/50UF i would imagine that 50 would be OK. To my way of thinking, most of the 47 'lytics will be +-10% so that would be 4.7UF. So there is a chance that with standard 'lytics that they will be over 47UF anyway.
But i am no expert and may be better to wait for Jim's response.

Anyway, good luck building, look forward to hearing your opinions on the Cornet

Cheers
Andy

Not to worry, 47uF is the same as a 50uF.  Really.  Same darn thing.  I'm just asking folks not to put in a 100uF or something really big for C10.

Ten percent tolerance is pretty typical for most stuff.  Very few circuits need those 1% or better components.
