What movie or TV show prompted you to buy music?
« on: 21 Mar 2023, 03:47 pm »
I recall buying music at least twice based upon a movie or TV show.

First was Laurie Anderson's CD Strange Angels. I heard the title track on the movie The Doctor staring William Hurt. I still remember that scene from the movie and Laurie Anderson remains one of my favorite artists.

I purchased Patty Griffin's CD Children Running Through after hearing "Heavenly Day" on the TV show Smallville.

What movie or TV show prompted a music purchase for you?

I bought the sound track to "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and a few others that I cannot remember off hand.

Original 90's "Beavis & Butthead" episodes (at least prior to 1994).

I may not have bought everything, but it introduced me to a few artists.

1. Ministry
2. Crowbar
3. PJ Harvey
4. Dead Milkman

Bought the Some Kind of Wonderful soundtrack after seeing the movie. A John Hughes classic.

Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Glenn Gould after seeing The Silence of the Lambs.

Millers Crossing soundtrack after seeing the movie.

The Greatest Showman after seeing the movie.

These are off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s others.

Cheers,

Scott

I've discovered more than a few new artists by shazaming songs during TV shows.

Great idea for a thread!

The Mission- Gabriel's Oboe
Last Tango in Paris
Chinatown- all of it
Diva- La Wally
Peter Gunn- theme
Clockwork Orange-  The Thieving Magpie
Out of Africa-- all of it.  I was in a shop in San Fran when they played it.  It stunned me.  I stopped shopping and listened.   It was playing on an old set of Klipsch Cornwalls.   It was close to 40 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Watched “Alone in the Dark “ (2004) with Tara Reid and Christian Slater. During the end credits they played “I wish I had an angel “ by Nightwish. That introduced me to them and they have been one of my favorite and most listened to bands of the past 20 years. I never would have heard of them.

The Blob (1988) remake plays “Brave new love” by Alien. Another awesome band that I would never have discovered.

As a neo-psychedlia fan, I found a number of jewels from the Lodge 49 television show. I found the Soundcarriers "Time Will Come" from the show.  Man, I love me some harmonium. Who needs LSD when you have music to take you away!

The documentary Searching for Sugarman was quite a find. Love Rodriguez.
