I figured I'd sign up on the forums. I sent in the Klipsch RP-404C to GR, and they are in the process of testing it, so that should be interesting. It was not bad as a center speaker but I wasn't totally happy with it, so I'm hoping to get it upgraded with higher quality parts. Another reason I'd rather upgrade the MkI than swap it for the MkII is that the RP-404C MkI FR is rated down to 59 Hz but the MkII only goes down to 87 Hz (Klipsch's own numbers). The MkII also has a smaller cabinet. Anyway, in the meantime, I got the GR upgrade kit for the RP-600M II to work on.
This is my first speaker DIY project, so I'll probably be searching these forums a lot and asking questions here. I've done some DIY amplifier stuff so not too worried about soldering but looking to learn more.
I already disassembled one of the RP-600m speakers and started scraping off excess glue. I've watched the 3 videos of Danny upgrading the original RP-600M, and the videos regarding the RP-600M II upgrade. As Danny mentioned in one of the videos, I'll probably do 2 smaller boards because of the brace running through the MkII.
I couldn't find any assembly videos specific to the MkII upgrade so I'm figuring it out based on techniques Danny recorded for the RP-600M MkI assembly. I got some 1/4" thick MDF board for the crossovers and a can of plasti-dip spray. It's maybe not quite as strong as the Duratex that Danny used, but it was readily available. Looking to build the crossover boards this weekend hopefully!
