Audioholics has announced its Products of the Year http://www.audioholics.com/buying-guides/product-awards-and-gift-guides/audioholics-2008-product-awards (http://www.audioholics.com/buying-guides/product-awards-and-gift-guides/audioholics-2008-product-awards).
It is gratifying (but no surprise to readers here :green:) that they made the SongTower their pick for the Floorstanding Speaker of the Year.
First it was Enjoy the Music, and now Audioholics has joined them in not only loving these speakers, but declaring them best of the year.
Congratulations to Dennis and Jim :thumb:

:singing: :notworthy: Congrats!

Congratulations!!! :thumb:
The award was: "based on performance, features, and value."
To be clear, Salk has better floorstanding speakers in it's lineup.
-
The Audioholics forum is a place I rarely hang out because of the self proclaimed know-it-alls who have very little listening experience, but the guys that run the forum seem to know their stuff, and they made the right decision. :)
Congrats to Jim, Dennis and the rest of the team! :thumb:

Thanks for taking note of that, Richard. That's great. Of course, we have Tom Andry to thank for both awards. He reviews for both magazines. Still, he's listened to (and seen) quite a few speakers, so I'm very gratified, and I'm sure Jim is considering all of the flattering remarks about the build quality and appearance.

Tom Andry was involved in both reviews? I didn't know that. I thought Nels Ferré did the Enjoy The Music review alone, and Tom Andry and Gene Dellasalla (spelling?) did the Audioholics review. Just the same, they all loved their SongTowers and both reviews declared them better than their prior reference speakers.
To be fair, many of us SongTower owners had said the same here well in advance of the pro reviewers, and none of us got the transmission line design details wrong!
-
No--you're right. I got the two reviews mixed up. Tom is the one who actually took measurements. Nels relied on mine. Now I remember. So that's good. We fooled two separate and distinct dudes.

We fooled two separate and distinct dudes - OR - We earned "Product of the Year" twice.
Two ways of saying the same thing! Two points make a straight line (always). A third such positive review would make for a genuine trend.
Happy New Year :green:.

Congrats and well deserved!

I knew my money was well spent. Now everyone else should know too. :thumb:
Thanks again to Jim, Dennis, and to the rest of the Salk team, I love 'em.

Boybees also posted another SongTowers review (largely derived from the audiocircle forum posts) at audioasylum.

Don't forget the first one! Jim said that he sold a lot of SongTowers after I posted this review.

I must have been one of those people that Jim mentioned. Your impressions are now at the top of the list.

And I forgot, funkym, that you also like Erykah Badu. I was listening to the Baduizm album while I was reading your avs review, although my SongTower don't go as low as the HT-3. Nonetheless, there is a thread on the AVA forum about choosing a track to demonstrate AVA gear, and the entire Baduizm disc would be good to demo either AVA gear or Salk speakers (or both, in my case).
-
:thumb: That entire disk is great. I liked it so much that I bought the deluxe version and gave my normal release to a good friend, and now he is hooked on Erykah too! Just a coincidence that both Boybee and I used a track from Baduizm to test speakers. Very wide range throughout the disc, lots of texture, and she has an amazing voice. Good recording to boot.
-
Agreed.... it is because of you Funk, that I had to get the Erika Badu albums...
They are really great....

I only have Baduzium. What are other good Eryka albums?
-
I think her live album is incredible! "Ye Yo" is my favorite song.
-
A bit off topic but since I like her so much... Baduizm is her strongest album IMO. Mamas Gun is really good as well. I can't speak toward the live album, or Worldwide Underground (almost bought that one today) because I haven't heard them, though I am sure they are great as well. New Amerykah (part one) is pretty cool, even though it's not as straight forward and frankly a little strange at times, it has grown on me considerably. It has a serious 70's vibe to it. She's one of those artists that I will pick up everything that she's released over time. :thumb:
