A day at the air show (Spirit of St. Louis Airport)
« on: 15 May 2016, 11:53 pm »
Wife and I had a great day (away from the kids) at the air show.
Got a sunburn, shot 913 photos, got teary eyed with the aircraft.
Overall, it was a great afternoon.

Highlights are: The Blue Angels, The Canadian Snow Birds, an F-22, and an assortment of wonderful vintage WWII aircraft, and a bird... A real one. Oh, and a kite.

Here's the images.
Please pardon my lack of post processing skills.... It annoys me too.

That's AWESOME!! Great shots!

The B29 looks like a model airplane hanging form a string, except so real!!

The F22/mustang shot is cool. It's always hard for me to believe the size difference and the evolution of aircraft that were designed for similar purpose.

PS - put some coconut oil on that sunburn. Stops the pain and prevents peeling. ;)

Thanks for the complements guys!

Yea... If I could master the camera, my photos would have some "prop blur", and wouldn't look so much like model airplanes.

All ya gotta do, Bro, is ask!  :)

Tell you what.  At the next air show I'll join you up on Wild Horse Road.  That ridge is clearly the place to be!   :thumb:

Bob, I'll take you up on that. That ridge is better that "air show center".
All those shots are taken from "Harvest Bible Chapel". They charge $10 a car to park there, and the grassy area in their back yard is about the size of two football fields. They sell a great $2 hotdog. I'll buy, of course.

Hey BISL,

Some fun facts about several of the planes at the show; The F18's are pure St Louis, designed, built and tested at Boeing; the B25's were assembled and tested over in KC in the early 1940's and; the B29 Super Fortress was assembled over in Wichita KS, again in the early 1940's.

Gotta say of all the planes, the P51 Mustang has always been my fav :thumb: For its time, it was one bad ass plane.

I knew about the F-18, but didn't know the rest of that. Neat!
Hey....does anybody know about the yellow/orange plane? Who is is, who it represents?

Can't say for sure but that is an RAF roundel on the plane. I would assume Great Brittan was represented at the show too.

Scott, I was checking out the aircraft and saw a marking "BCATP".
Turns out, it's The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) a joint venture between United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, during the Second World War. This is the 75th anniversary paint sceme.
