Was just looking at the 2014 CAF vendor listing. Looks like Odyssey Audio will be there. I have put it on my calendar.
After the great service I received from Klaus repairing my preamp that was damaged during shipment (APO in Cambodia) I would like to buy Klaus a beer (or equivalent)..
-
Why don't all of us Odyssey owners here in the D.C. metro area get together at the Capital Audiofest and show our gratitude to Klaus by taking him out to an amazing dinner at the restaurant of his choice? What do you say?
-
Yes, yes, yes, oh please, yes ..........
-
More than a beer....Strong bottles of wine from Mantling Sienna Tuscany close to where I live shame
of me I've been promising Klaus for years now !!

Yes, yes, yes, oh please, yes ..........
What's this free dinner in DC stuff?
-
Sounds like a good time...lots of good restaurants in Silver Spring. Looking forward to my first audio show.
-
Klaus, you might want to start thinking about a day and a time. Also, if you have a restaurant in mind, great; if not, let us know what food suits your fancy and we can come up with suggestions. Don't feel you have to make up your mind soon, but it might be a good idea to get the ball rolling. Looking forward to a fine time, everybody!

I seem to recall he was particularly fond of the huge cowboy cut bone-in ribeye at Ray's The Classics (now just "The Classics" after Ray sold it to management). Highly recommended and just down the street and around the corner from the capfest hotel.

Pleasure meeting you this morning, glad Laura insisted we stop in your rooms.
The Kismet Reference floorstanders are the real deal and have them on my short list to audition once I move into a new home and have a better idea what my room will be like.

Klaus,
good seeing you as always. I am truly amazed at how you do it. You always deliver great sound and always at an amazingly affordable price. Your room with the Kismets was killer sound at any price.
What really blew me away was the room with the small speakers. I could not believe you were producing the quality of sound I heard for $1,800. There is no excuse for anyone who loves music not to step up from their mp3 player or Best Buy stacked system to hear the real deal.
See you in Denver.
Best,
Laura

Looks like Klaus is about to catapult that fork. lol That is one serious steak man! Be tough to move after that feast.
-
I have to agree with vinyl_lady, Klaus offers the best value in high end audio, managing to produce world class performances in both speakers and electronics while keeping the price in the real world affordable category! His Kismet room competed with best sound at the show regardless of cost, and the room with the monitors and Cyclops integrated blew away all expectations for what $1800 can do, outstanding job Klaus.

It sounded really good when he popped in zz top

two of the better rooms of the show ... and yeah, ZZ Top rocked; or did the setup rock ZZ Top?!
-
Looks like another super successful show. Well done Klaus. Now time for some pictures.

Everything...and I mean everything was freakin' awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil, your new room looks great. Do you have any absorption or diffusion behind the main seats?

Scott - just got the main room up and running over the past couple of weeks. I used the RTA and it measured nicely from the listening position. I am not entirely done with audio stuff yet (below are a couple of more systems including the Candela preamp in one). In the current room the space behind the two chairs has a half wall/counter and opens to the kitchen. I do have a wall about 6 feet wide with some natural diffusion/artwork and may add to that at some point (and that is pretty much the biggest extent of wall space in the entire room). FL houses tend to have open floor plans and little wall space.

Your pic reminds me Phil- how do you like the MicroWalshes? "Elevator ride" review please?

I like them lots. I like to have different systems (for both music and movies) that allow me to take the media and compare. They are for a small room and they are in a small spare bedroom. They work very well in there (I have a doorway at at angle as the room is not a rectangle and I was going to get MMGs but upon measuring the wall that was going to be a tough fit and having a pair of the Micro Walshes come available at the time I closed on the house in April 2013 - I just grabbed them and stuck them in a closet until I moved in later in the year). On their own, they don't do super deep bass (more like a medium sized bookshelf speaker - from memory specs say 47Hz at -3db), but I have them with a Rel Strata III sub. I'm still getting used to them. It still is a bit of a freak out when you walk about a foot in front of the plane of the speakers and in the middle and can hear the imaging like someone is in front of you and about a foot or so down from your head singing from the TV - I have ASC Sound Planks with velcro on the sides of the TV. I tried them with bother the Candela and Sherbourne preamps (I have a shallow depth Bryston 3BST that fits behind the TV) and much prefer the Candela (after the 2013 Capital Audiofest when I picked up the Candela I had it in the basement system with the Bryston on the B&Ws for about 5 months before I packed stuff for the move). If you listen to the type of music that doesn't have bass content you can live without the sub. I have Rel 2 Storm IIIs in the main system and a Q150 in the system with the B&Ws so it is hard for me to live without it. I even have a sub in the office system. They are clearly a step up from MMGs (which I've heard many times and help set up a friends and several other pairs of Maggies). I'd say I even like them better than the Maggie 1.6s (I helped set up many pair of those). They are also easier to place.
-
Hey Phil : systems are looking sweet - specially that main living room rig. Very Florida!
Glad you're liking and getting use of the Ohm Walsh's. But better than Maggies - sacrilege! Would seems to be very different speakers at least.....
Currently demoing one of those TEAC UD 501 DACs you have on your rack : smooth smooth smooth (for better and worse).

Jon - at least the 1.6s in my opinion (and only in a small room). From what I heard of the 1.7s in the store vs. the 1.6s in the same room at an earlier date, the 1.7s were clearly better. Right now I am considering sometime in the near future going to network playback and moving the HAL MS-2 to the room with the Teac DAC. Maybe earlier next year.

Phil,
Your unit (which was a medium nightmare to make btw) looks absolutely fantastic with the gear and in place.
Well, you did a very nice job designing it...bravo

Klaus - thanks. Since it is an integrated A/V system, I did not want the screen height to be as high in my old set-up. Much better, especially since the sitting position is only about 10 feet from the 100 inch screen (vs. about 14 in the old place). Definitely better for the audio in terms of not transmitting vibrations (probably the net weight of the rack is about 350 lbs.) and also being lower (so there is nothing up high between the midrange and tweeters) and no glass doors like the old set-up.
-
Klaus,
What were the sources used in both rooms?
Thanks,
Gregg

Phil,
Thank you.
Prices for the CD player vary greatly; 1,200 Euro to 12,000 Euro. Which one was used?

Don't know if this helps - pic from last year's Capital Audiofest shows a big close-up - http://parttimeaudiophile.com/2013/07/31/caf-2013-odyssey-audio/

Not only did Odyssey produce some of the best sound at the show- last year and this year- he did it at the bottom of the price range. Only "The Clue" little minimonitor gave him a run for his money on value.
Go Odyssey. The hobby needs more Odysseys and fewer $1500 speaker cables IMHO.
-
Thanks dbC.....as for the players, there are only around 100 units or so in the country, and good luck trying to find a unit used...the Symphonic Line players are incredible, best I have ever used.
As for what I use, and what I love, a used Vibrato or Klarheit 2 should set you back anywhere below or in the 2's......
-
Also, and we had the discussion with Woodsyi and Jarcher etc. at dinner.....
if you guys ever run across a Timbre Technology TT1 DAC (usually around $ 500, at least 13 years old) grab it...don't wait, RUSH.
I used to demo with him at shows in the late 90's.............
Still the single most musical DAC I have ever heard, even though obviously technology itself went on, but man oh man, the emotional connection...wonderful.

I ordered a Khartago last month after listening to it on two different days at the CAF. Can't wait till it gets here. Perfection takes time!
