They made great universal players.  Always highly sought after.

I am glad I got a TEAC CD transport recently for my 2 channel system, in case I need to replace the drive.

This is bad news.  They made great stuff at an affordable price.

Hmmm. Makes me think I should buy a 4K player while I still can.

Sad to see a great company with a great product go out of business.  Unfortunately the did not diversify into other area's of the audio market.  Streaming video services are killing BR and DVD. Plus, Oppo use to make cheap well performing DVD players and they went high end which is not always a good thing. You can buy pretty good BR players for a lot less than what oppo was selling.  I am surprised that they did not jump into the DAC, streamer market head on.  Look at Schiit audio.  Great products at all price points.

Really makes me sad that such a good company is going under at least in the US.  I guess their sales were not enough to keep it going.

Seems like a bad April Fools joke.

Lol, and an ill-timed one, considering the news release was on 4/2.

Their DVD and Blu Ray players were high quality units when their competition was turning out sub par products or even simply crappy products.  I've owned two of their universal players, and had planned on buying another in a year or two.  Damn.

Streaming video services are killing BR and DVD.

My guess is you've got it.

When I read this thread first I was a bit incredulous - I mean, I have a BDP-103 and when it dies, I supposed I would have just looked to the equivalent Oppo model du jour to replace it. However, on reflection, the reality is that 95% of its work these days is streaming Netflix. And I don't use the analog outputs any more (frankly I was a bit unimpressed with that aspect of the player).

Hm.

I owned one of the early players.  Unfortunately Oppo has had a pattern of not giving warning of dropped products (the HA-1 DAC/headphone amp for example).  With headphones, Sonica, wireless speakers, and HA-2 portable headphone amp in addition to the universal players I thought they had diversified rather nicely.

Sad to see any company that offers quality at a good price close.

Is it just me or doesn't streaming rob you of good hard sound quality and video quality? I must be old school because I love putting a disc in the machine and controlling every aspect of playback I can. I have over 800 DVD's and am on a run to purchase 4K movies monthly. I noticed Amazon (?) was discontinuing CD sales soon? The world is coming to an end!! :bawl:

Salute Oppo.
