James,

I've been meaning to call this to your attention -

"The early bird catches the worm" (Proverb)
"The second mouse gets the cheese" (Fact)
Rega
The last major hifi manufacturer to produce a CD player

Any cease and decist orders?  Not that I think you're like a company that starts with an "M" and ends with an "onster" who seems to enjoy suing other companies.

In fairness to Rega, they had that on their website a good amount of time before the BCD-1 came out.

I forgot To Mention,
The Display on The New Bryston AM'FM Tuner Should be the Same Display as the BCD-1.
I'm Sure it's Possible, the Case the same as The BCD-1

And The Nobs, and feet same as BCD-1
It would Be Just Perfect ! in Black 17"

Robert

Good points, Robert.  Use as much as you can from the parts bin to keep the cost of production down and have it match the BCD-1, et al cosmetically.  Make mine 19" silver (different strokes for different folks!).

In this business climate manufacturers need more customers not more products. Tuners are plentiful on the used market and I would be very surprised if Bryston could make one that surpasses the better vintage stuff.
And, even if they did, it would have to cost 10 times as much.
As for turntables, it may be a growth segment briefly, if at all, but it does not promise to recover extensive R&D investment.
McIntosh made a turntable in recent years. How did that work out?

They should build some type of hard driver transport that's surrounded by all Bryston analogue circuitry. this would be very nice i am sure. With an outboard powersupply. It can be slaved BDA for optimum playback

i pm James and asked him how he wants to reach younger customers. i suggested that a Bryston soundcard for all these computers out there would be something that younger customers would consider to buy. assembling a soundcard should be almost an easy task for Bryston as the BCD-1 and the BDA-1 are basically computers.
that being said maybe it would help Bryston to offer an "entry level" in products. not really very much teenagers have that income to afford for example a CD player that is a few thousand dollars...and don't forget that "they" don't even know what a preamplifier is or an outboard DAC or a mono block power amplifier or...
James said that a Bryston music server might be the answer. nothing against it i would say- but would that product reach the ipod generation?

al.

p.s.: speaking for myself i would say "YES" for a cool Bryston quality made music server. but i love Bryston anyway... :green:

I work at a college (athletics), and the students are probably 90% of the people I speak to everyday.  The students bring music to my office everyday (sports medicine).  They also bring music to my next-door neighbor everyday (weight room).

None of them use CDs.  If they buy CDs, they rip them to their computer.  And that's a big if, unfortunately.  CDs to them are like cassette tapes to us - an old, obsolete, inconvenient format.  Digital media-less music (and movies) is where they're at.

We can learn a lot from them, and they can learn a lot from us.

As to future products, I'd like something like the Naim Uniti, minus the CD drive.

I highly doubt it could be made affordable and have Bryston's build and sound quality though.  I know the B100 with DAC is very similar, but it doesn't have the wireless and FM and internet radio capability.

I think the next generation would embrace it if it was within their budget.  Here's a vid review of the Uniti -

There is a software fix for those problems being talked about. I downloaded the latest software and have not had any problems since. See the software update blog......
