unequalized bose 901's

I have a pair of series 6 mk2 901's without the EQ. I am using them with Vega D9's for base and KEFs for lows all powered by a 200 wpc Carver pa. Why do I need to equalize the bose speakers if I use them only for mids and low bighs?
