  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

My guess is that the majority if not all are television tubes

Yes, all tubes have a label stamped say its name and birth date as 6SN7GT or 12AX7 etc unfortunately in western tubes the date is a code, in Russian tubes the manufacturing date is a direct date number as 6C33C-B  VIII78 (August1978).

Like record collections in estate sales, someone has certainly cherry picked them already. they are selling the stuff no one wants.
Friends, and buyers went through them and took all the valuable and desirable tubes. Now they are selling the bulk of junk.
I guarantee it.

Even someone without any knowledge of tubes but with some internet savvy can easily Google them to find their worth.
But hey, ya never know

In late 1990s VTS bought 10 Millions tubes from US Army.

This reminds me of a guy who went with a friend to a Navy surplus sale some years ago.  Amongst the lot were tubes, mostly tubes for oscilloscopes.  They had barrels full of them.  He scooped out a few and his friend took like a small box full.  They were all Amperex JAN/USN 6922 and JAN/USN 7308.  He said they carted them off to the landfill the next day.

I knew another guy who went to a similar sale in the 1990s.  He bought hundreds of the same Amperex 6922 & 7308 for just dollars.  He sold me 16 of them for $80.   Many years later I sold 6 of them for $300.  Still using the others in my gear.

It was mostly stuff I'm not interested in.  Very few audio picks and the ones there weren't interesting.

I’m also on Long Island.  This is a regional challenge.  Long Island hangs off NYC like an appendage.  Almost anything of value has been mined out of thrift stores, antique shops, and garage sales.  The only things of value are items too bulky or esoteric to have a ready market.  When Ebay hit a few years ago, the local dealers were the first to start selling local inventory online, removing from the region.  We Alamo had a generational turnover in housing, in which first generation owners of post-war suburban houses have pretty much sold off, along with the the vintage contents of their houses.

This is pretty much what happens when someone is selling off inventory on Long Island:

1.  The owner looks online and determines that the items are valuable.
2.  The owner either sells online, posts on CL, or calls a dealer in to move the make an offer.
3.  “Early Birds” cherry pick estate and garage sales.  Leftover items are then offered to the public on CL.

You really have to beat the bushes around here to find anything of any value.  Usually it is something too big, bulky, or esoteric to have a broad market.
