Bluesound Pulse Soundbar 2i
« on: 3 Feb 2019, 07:11 pm »
I'm thinking of getting one of these.  Does anyone have any actual experience with them?  I like that it's Roon Ready for casual music listening too.  How does it sound?  I'll use it for TV watching mostly.  Best place to purchase from?

If you buy a Bluesound product buy it because you want the Bluesound ecosystem and software. For that price I am sure you can find numerous competitors with fine sounding products. If you already use Roon you may not need the Bluos software. Do you want a multi-room, whole house system?

I'd buy from my local dealer but then again I have one (or more) nearby.

Not a whole house system.  Roon Ready and obviously great sound.  What else is there other than this and Sonos?

Yamaha has MusicCast, Denon/Marantz Heos and there is an open platform called DTS Play-fi. I own a Bluesond Node and a Marantz processor but when it came time to go whole house I chose DTS-PlayFi and it is fantastic. For a DTS-Playfi soundbar you have choices from Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Polk,Pioneer Elite,Integra, Martin Logan and Paradigm. The REALLY good news is that many of them are selling at BIG discounts. I just bought 3 Definitive Technology active speakers at 75% off ($100 vs MSRP of $400). I have my home theater connected with a Klipsch Gate ($25 sale price vs $100 MSRP). Here is a link about PlayFi.

Here is an example of a discount, a $1200 MSRP Integra DTS PlayFi soundbar for under $500. If you order from Amazon you get a 30 guarantee if you don't like:

DTS Play-fi is not an open platform. Manufacturers license it from the company that owns the platform. Just like Airplay2 is licensed from Apple.

You would need to find the soundbar/product you are interested in and then check with Roon.

I thought you were recommending something in regards to my first post where I said I wanted Roon.

OK, I meant multi-vendor platform. In my setup I use products from Klipsch, Paradigm, Definitive Technology, Polk, and also have the software on my PC for my desktop system. The Klipsch Gate's connects my Marantz, Parasound and Sunfire processors to the system so I can bring it all together. The Klipsch Gate is only $25 on Amazon :).

Plenty to digest here. I don't know if one can serve up Roon from a PC or if you need a dedicated Roon capable network player.

witchdoctor - I agree that an technology that is used by multiple vendors is a much better approach than a proprietary single vendor solution.

Yes, you can use Roon, what are you using to control the Roon software? A PC or a tablet?

OK, Play-Fi has an app for windows so anything you play on your computer can be played on any of your playfi zones. That could be a soundbar, speaker, receiver, etc. So you would open Roon on your PC, play what ever you want and it would stream anywhere you choose on your Play-Fi network. Let me know if you have questions:
