Without a good stereo what's the point in even having food? Or shelter. Or air..

In an odd way and besides, its shark week. more people die from coconuts falling on their heads then die from shark attacks every year.
More people die from stabbings then from gunshots.
More people died from drug overdoses then covid-19.

The data I can find (at least for murders) don't bear that out:

Unless people are committing suicide by stabbing, that is. Not a way I would choose!
Snopes (https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/coconuts-kill-more-sharks/)isn't so sure about the coconuts figure, either. I can tell you from personal experience, it isn't true in New England.
Back to topic -- price inflation on everything really is unsettling to this retiree. The options seem to be, save your money until it's worthless anyway, or spend it now, while it buys something, and plan on going broke later.

You don't have to look very far to see what is happening to the price of audio gear...it is going up! Early in the pandemic, it was probably demand driven...now the cost and supply of the components are a big factor.
Jim Salk has said that the BE2Pure is going up about 10% after Pacific Audiofest. Take a look at the Spatial Audio page...all of the M series speakers are out of stock and the price has gone up on the X series.
One thing that is surprising is preowned gear on the major sites seems to be moving more slowly and at lower prices...except for bigger names and hotter items....and there aren't too many of those. Even Benchmark stuff is moving more slowly.
So, has the whole audio market slowed a little and the manufacturers haven't seen it because they are operating of 6+month backlogs...I guess time will tell.
