Hello from chilly Alberta . . .
« on: 21 Nov 2020, 03:06 am »
Hi there . . . hope all doing well . . . .

New to the forum.  In all honesty, a catastrophic audio incident snapped my head back into online queries, opinions and such . . . .

Made a move further out in the country, set my system back up, flipped the 'Power' on the amp and when the relay kicked in 'pop' and a whisp of smoke in the air.

Long an short, amp serviced and maybe/maybe not the issue but 100% now with service and few part replacements, and tweeters blown.  So amp serviced, question of repair of speakers or new speakers now back up for someone who really doesn't spend much time any longer looking to upgrade or equip in general.

System:

VPI Scoutmaster Sig w/ SDS
ClearAudio Symphony cartridge
Clearaudio Symphono + Phono pre
Bryston CD
Oppo 95
PS Audio DL III DAC
Otari MX5050 II RTR
Plinius 9200 integrated

Welcome and sorry to hear of your incident.

I'm at a stage in life where I listen more than think about audio gear.  So I picked up a NAD M10, a high quality compact all-in-one server, DAC, preamp, power amp, and Dirac piece.  The same can be done with Buchardt A500 active 2-way monitors that include amps, DSP, remote, etc.

Can you pull the tweeter and take pictures of the backside. If you have a tweeter available thru diy sources a cheap fix, and they look to deserve being fixed even if you don’t keep them. You will also need to chack the XO, you may have popped a series C or R which is an easier & cheaper fix usually.
