My N2X build w/ aluminum cabinets
« on: 24 Mar 2013, 11:40 pm »
These took a while to make but i am very happy with the end result. Wanted to assemble them to get a break in period and to make sure things are sounding good. A little tight and bright at first but i've had them on for a few days now and they have relaxed.

They will be anodized soon. Black on the front and dark red on the rest of the cabinet.

Matt,

To me they look fantastic the way they are, but I really like the aluminum look. Really nice job and make sure you show us pictures once you have anodized them.

Those are super fresh. +1 for keeping them as is. Nice work, that must be really hard to do.

Hi Matt and all Audio Circle members.
Nice work.
How about a closer look at them?
How about some details on how they were made?
Did you use NoRez from Danny?

Thanks for the welcome guys!

It's almost time for bed but I will add some close up shots tomorrow as well as details about the build. Danny has helped me greatly with this build, he's still guiding me :)

I've made many things but these are my first set of speakers ever! And my first aluminum ones lol

Hi RAW and all Audio Circle members.
Nice enclosure.
Of how many pieces is it made of?
I am sure it was not made from a single piece/block of aluminum ? ? ?

The tall towers i used a 1/2" and others were a combo 1/2" and 1/4" for the smaller towers.Plus double and triple thick corners for radius on the top or fronts.

I do like the look of those N2X bookshelf's above

Very cool Matt.  I also like them the way they are, they look great   :thumb:

When I built my N3 TL's last summer they took   a long time to really loosen up, I'd say I was still noticing improvements  with over 150 hrs
A while back I swapped out the  poly fill for some acusta stuff  and that  improved the bass response.  Not more bass,   but  tighter and better sounding

Anyway, awesome job man , can't wait to see some more pics

I will try to upload some tonight after work.

Not a good day so far...... Coworker passed away this past weekend. He was battling leukemia for over a year.

He worked as a project manager here at the machine shop for many years.

RIP Bruce

I have some free time here.

These are pictures i took of the assembly downstairs in my DIY room. I'll take some closer up ones in the living room tonight.

They are made with 1" plate. Each speaker weighs 66lbs. 8.5"x12.5"x14". The aluminum was $420.00.

Very nice machining work :thumb:
Nothing a little CNC time can do.Nice program work on the finished work.

Would be interesting to have them measured to see the acoustic changes on the front due to the front baffle.

Thank you :)

Danny emailed me some responses on a baffle he tested. His was protruding the front (side pieces on front baffle) but mine are inline with the baffle. So what he tested, wasn't the same as my baffle but the same idea. Just the pockets recess into the front on mine. I have put hard material into the pockets and can't hear a difference, so i will leave them. They sound wonderful IMO. Danny did get something like a 3db change on his test.

Really nice!  Have you ever done any alum/cnc speaker stands?

No but i was in the process of making some for these speakers. Work is not getting any slower, don't have time to make them, so i have found some custom ones online. They are making them to my specs :)
