at this time it looks like the price will be $38,500.

they really are expensive to build, these are a bit more art than veneered mdf.....

Lou - how do these differ from the Ulysses, other than the select wood, larger size, additional bracing and the rear firing super tweeter?  Are the drivers different / higher end?  What about frequency response and the efficiency rating?

I'm sure they will be beautiful... that's a given!

you've named the main points. range and sensitivity will be about the same.
the wood is not 'just' simple upgrade, this really  is another league, and the rear tweeters etc bring another level of build complexity.

the forward drivers are the same. someday I will work on a "higher end" driver but the costs will be much more than the Orpheus, unless you know of off the shelf drivers that will do what I need for my design goals and that are more high end than what I currently use/make.

bottom line is that the Orpheus is much more expensive to build and is priced more in line with where my top models should be. the Ulysses while not by any means an inexpensive speaker is actually priced near its cost.

thanks much for the compliments, I can't wait to unveil these at RMAF.

showing the rear tweeters.  the back on this pair is stained ash like on the Ulysses, in the future I think I will go with walnut on the back as well?

there are two switches for twweeter level, one for the front and one for the rear tweeters.
we are still working out the design for a switch for phase on the rear tweeters, for now the panel has wires and posts to manually switch phase.

I hope one day to have the opportunity to both hear and see your gorgeous loudspeakers Lou. I simply love the "old school" look of your cabinets.

Have fun at RMAF!   :thumb:

Cheers,

Hi Lou,

Congrats on the new speaker model.  It looks fantastic and I'm sure it sounds phenominal.

They really do look wonderful, particularly the lighter wood inlay at the bottom. That seems to be becoming a fixture after the Athenas.

Now they are worth selling an organ for.

Gorgeous!!! You definitely do some very impressive work.

I know the outriggers but what "spikes" are those?

the spikes are new ones made by Soundocity, they are working on a Daedalus version.

thanks,

I just picked up my new baby from David Webber, easily the best guitar I've ever owned and on a par with the best I've played (including the Jeff Traugott!)  . here's a pic with the Orpheus. the guitar is walnut with a bearclaw Engleman spruce top.
