RMAF 2012

Reports anyone?

The SoundScapes sounded good but thin last year.  How do the SS8’s sound in the same room?

What are the small speakers I saw in a picture of his room on another website?

Where'd you see a post with pics of their room? I've yet to see anything.

Not good at all IMO.

Room placement issue is resolved.  There is bass response now.  Jason may not have stopped back to listen.  We put the 8's at the entrance end for visual attraction to draw folks in but does not load the speaker as well as the far end configuration.  Not optimum but very good now.

^This.  The issues were resolved, and the room sounded very good today.  Friday is always the worst day to audition because vendors are still tweaking and fiddling.  Sunday is where it's at, as everything is dialed in nicely.  Hopefully Jason has another listen.

They are at audioaficionado.org.  I had to register to see them though.   :(

I agree.  The SS8's were rocking hard on Saturday and Sunday too, contrary to jtwrace's statement (although he heard them Friday).  The room needed to be tamed, but we were successful in such and Saturday and Sunday were great days for the Salk room.

Guess Stereophile doesn't agree with jtwrace:

"Texas-style blues (Could it have been Stevie Ray Vaughan?) sounded appropriately smooth, sweet, and articulate."

Heard them first Saturday afternoon and when we heard the SS8's both of us looked at eachother and said "wow".  The SS8's were the class of the field in the sub 10k territory.  The only thing for less than 12 that could touch them was the Dali's.

The SCST's were also fantastic.  As a result I've reconsidered my entire home audio plan...

The SS8's were downright impressive.

I guess I've been out of touch or am losing what little memory I have left.    :(  What are those monitors?  I recognize the drivers, but didn't know Jim was producing this system.  Is there a thread/link where I can read about them?  Thanks.

You're not crazy.  It was a design a customer requested and it came out so nice that Jim has been showing it without really officially putting it into the portfolio.  Right now it is fondly called the Raal Illuminator.  It has a Scanspeak woofer (IIRC).  Plays amazingly deep.  For those who only have space for a bookshelf, then it is really attractive.

Great recognition on another Forum, plus terrific RMAF pics. (Steve's a giant Wilson + Lamm fan for his own system)

^ Thanks for the link.  It sounds like they really liked the Salk stuff, and the OP liked both Salk and Bud Fried.  Although, Bud Fried as a man is getting trashed over there; apparently he wasn't very nice???
