We had to see The Wild Robot. I wasn't familiar with the story but my friend read all the books to her young Grandchildren and she wanted to see the stories come to life.

ROZZUM all-purpose utilitarian robot is shipwrecked during a typhoon and washes up on an island that has no human life. After rescuing an egg, it hatches and the newborn gosling imprints on ROZ but the robot is not programed to be a mother. Pinktail, a mother opossum, convinces Roz to accept the task of raising the orphaned gosling with three primary requirements – feeding it, teaching it to swim and learning to fly before the flock flies South for winter migration. This is the beginning of a wonderful adventure.

"The Wild Robot would be the final film to be animated entirely in-house at DreamWorks... the studio would be shifting away from producing films in-house in their Glendale campus to relying more heavily on outside studios after 2024.

"After reading the book, writer director Chris Sanders felt the story's innocent tone and nature setting required a look that strayed away from the standard CGI photorealism in many modern animated films. He and production designer Raymond Zibach wanted the film in its finished state to still resemble the concept paintings... While the characters were made up of CGI geometrical shapes, their surfaces possess a hand-painted look. This painterly style philosophy was carried onto every visual element in the film, including the sky and environments."

The voice cast includes Lupita Nyong’o as the robot Roz and Pedro Pascal as the Fink the fox. Other actors include Mark Hamill as the brown bear Thorn, Bill Nighy as Longneck, an old Canada goose, Ving Rhames as as Thunderbolt, a peregrine falcon and Catherine O’Hara as Pinktail the opossum.

The Wild Robot must be seen in the theater to appreciate the beautiful animation and large scale landscapes plus it is just more fun to watch on the big screen.
