Update...
« on: 18 Sep 2024, 05:34 pm »
Exactly one year ago today, we locked the doors to our shop for the final time.

In the weeks prior to closing, we were finishing up all orders and auctioning off equipment once it was no longer needed.  It was an extremely busy time and I had all kinds of ideas on what to do next.  I could offer kits, write a book on all the things we learned about building speaker cabinets, review audio products, do videos, etc. But once I had some time to step back and consider my next moves, I realized that I would end up spending my days responding to emails and telephone calls just as I had done for over 20 years. I didn’t find that very appealing and decided it would probably be best to pass on all of those projects and take some time to explore areas outside of audio.  I spent time working on my tennis game, did some upgrades in the house and did a bit more landscaping which I enjoy.

I haven’t posted here on audiocircle in quite a while, but monitor it to provide help with any issue our customers have. Now that a year has passed, I thought I’d update everyone on moves we will make in the next few weeks.

Due to popular demand, we have kept our website up and running this past year.  But doing so requires dedicated IP addresses that runs $150 per month.  I can get internet access here for $50 per month without a dedicated IP address.  So I can save $1200/year by shutting the site down. Since the site generates relatively little traffic these days and no revenue, my plan is to close it down before the end of the month. I will continue monitoring this circle but will no longer be a site sponsor here on audiocircle. This will also save us a bit more money.

I continue to answer emails (although not quite as promptly as in the past) and telephone calls.  I used to answer every time my phone rang.  But with so many spam calls, I finally figured out I don’t have to anymore and have pretty much stopped answering calls from numbers not in my contact list.  So if you call, you may have to leave a voicemail.

I will likely show up at an audio show now and then to meet old friends and keep tabs on developments in the audioshere. But that will likely be the extent of my involvement going forward.

I want to thank everyone for the phenomenal support you have provided us for the past 23 years and hope to see you all again in the future.  In the meantime, I thought you might appreciate an update.

Happy listening…

- Jim

Best wishes to you both. Hopefully, you decide to stop in and say hi at the Florida Audio Expo, which is my neck of the woods these days.

Good luck with your future endeavors.

The Salk Sound website may go away but nothing on the internet totally disappears. Audiophiles interested in Salk speakers can look up all the specifications and frequency response graphs at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine

I retired 4 years ago after 39 years as a woodworker, I'm adapting nicely. After so many years I feel my website is still part of my identity so I keep it running. I even add stuff once in a while, it's nice to have a place to play. GoDaddy and Webby Enterprises cost me $94 a year. Webbytech hosting has extensive configuration and email filtering/spam removal settings through the cPanel. I barely use a fraction of the options available.

Jim,

Thank you for the update. By all means do things that motivate you and give you satisfaction. That said, is there no possibility that someone could provide your speaker designs in kit form? It doesn’t have to be you - someone could do it for you and pay you royalties. [I’m not volunteering. I became a grandfather 10 weeks ago, and I’m going to spend as much time with my grandson as his parents will put up with.]

Enjoy life!

This is certainly a possibility.

Jim, I hope to see you in the crowd at Axpona just to say hello. I have been thrilled with my Song3 speakers since the day I received them shortly after I heard them at AXPONA. I have a couple systems and I have sold lots of other pieces of gear but love your speakers. Enjoy retirement bud.

It is unfortunate that there isn't a way to have facts/data page screenprint available on the Salk Facebook page for each of the Salk speakers as I'm sure that would prove very helpful that own Salk speakers....or want to own Salk speakers in the resale market.

Thank you for all your good work, Jim. Your speakers, as part of an overall system, provide an immense amount of joy in my life. Listening to music where you can let go of all other worries and get lost in the sound is a highlight of my week. I hope you'll be able to keep a basic website or the Facebook site up. I wish you the best in all that you do next.

Hey bud, Nathan and I will be up on the 10th to insulate Hannah's family room over that weekend. The following weekend Brenda is coming up and taking Hannah to visit her dad in NY. Maybe I'll have a minute to catch up, but Hannah always finds more projects!

Will certainly see you for the wedding but that's way out.
