It also has new power supply caps and a few select small signal elecrtrolytics changed out as well. A very well made with more reserve than most ss amps I've serviced - barely breaks a sweat with any load. A keeper if you can find one - surprisingly smooth sounding for an 80's class AB ss ampThanks to AVnerdguy
i owned one of those mitsu amps - absolutely fantastic. competitive w/any modern s/s amps at 10-20 times the price of what these sell for, imo...

Not the LS9's, the blue Design Acoustics peaking out from behind them! Dodecahedrons... Yeah, Baby!
I was surprised how well it performed :thumb: :thumb:
Naw, they're built cheap, don't last, and sound like crap...........send them to me and I'll dispose of them properly.
I would love to have one of those Marantz receivers!i am partial to the marantz 18 and 19, as they have the best tunas inside - the 20 & 20b.
I remember the speakers but I've never heard them playedAt the time I bought those Design Acoustics D-12, there were several true omni directional speakers on the market. I also looked at the Ohm F. The D12's have a signature much like a dipole. To this day, they are pretty darned good on orchestral pieces and are hard to beat for HT use.
mitsuman, this one is for you. the set below is not mine, but i have this exact set, still in the original packaging: 8)

Holy Moly Rocky! Beautiful! Does that Ampzilla still run? I admit it was one of the hardest amps (check that ANYTHING) to service I have ever encountered. They were all hand built and would vary from unit to unit so the schematics may not be correct. I blew up more good components trying to get them fixed. And when they blew they really blew! But, when the were running correctly it was very impressive for the time.
My H.H. Scott LK-150 with new caps/cans and speaker posts. Sounds great.
Cool doug. I just saw one of those a week ago. A friend said he'd built it from a kit back in the day (he's 84 now). Not quite as clean as that one, but interesting how stuff pops up from the strangest unrelated places. :thumb: JD
FireGuy, those Sansui SP 5500x speakers are something to behold. How do they sound connected to the vintage receiver?
Fireguy,
Have you tried a BBE Sonic Maximizer with those speakers?
You might be pleasantly surprised. They don't always play nice with tube gear but with SS it should be just the ticket.

I would agree with your assessment the Mac wasn't that impressive of a tuner and I had no problem selling it. I only recently sold the Sansui and only because I just wasn't using it anymore. I never used the tuners for critical listening and with the advent of internet radio with NO or very few commercials I've gone that direction.
Congratulations!
Do those sound as good as I remember?
Here's my Sansui TU-9900 tuner. It's been sitting in the closet for the last few years, so today I decided to rotate it back into the system. It looks great, sounds great, and picks up more stations than what I'd been listening to previously. I don't know why it took me so long to do this.

most beautiful tuna ever? certainly in the running . . . sometimes i think i sold the wrong one, if only for looks. sonically the one I kept is only marginally better...Buddy and Doug - thanks for the compliments on the tuner. It's definitely a fine piece of equipment. I had it gone over by Bill Ammons. He recapped it, installed new filters, upgraded the audio op amps, and realigned it. It's now a very good sounding unit - as good as any tuner I've had in my system and I've owned a lot of tuners.

this has been chez sedon for a couple years; it was adwertized as not working when i got it - signal strength meter tube bad. i finally decided to try to trouble shoot it; the 6g-e12 signal strength meter tubes are rare as hen's teeth, and i had no luck finding another one for less than a few times what i paid for the complete tuna. i wariac'd it slowly last night, and gave it a go today; it turns out that everything is fine. one of the tube socket connections was shorting out against another chassis connection. w/everything cleaned, lubed, and the socket connector moved away from the chassis, everything works and sounds fine, including the signal strength meter tube. :thumb: it sounds good; further ewaluation will be forthcoming after it runs in a few days.

i think that's the model that my dad had circa 1957, and I got it when I was about 16 (1967). Fond memories! :thumb:it could be the right model - this one is also mono w/a mpx out. it says "stereophonic", cuz you can operate am on one channel and fm on the other. (notice the "selector" switch.) some stations did this in the early days of stereo - broadcasting one channel on am & the other on fm, before fm stereo. you'd be surprised how many wintage tubed tunas are like this - they say "stereo" but they are not really, w/today's broadcasts - you need a mpx decoder.
EDIT: Wrong model. His was mono with a multiplex output.

Looks like the Ohm Walsh speaker. I always wanted to hear the model F, but I think it went out of production about the time I got my driver's license. I did get to hear one of the smaller Walsh speaker models in the middle 1980's, and I thought that they sounded very good at the time.

Its a miracle the company survive all these years.
Hi FULLRANGEMAN.There is plenty of PA speakers more good looking than these, even Cerwin-Vega or Carvin.
I would call them ugly, but they are odd and/or bizarre looking.
How many times I read comments from Danny Ritchie
saying the drivers should be as close as possible together.
With that set up the drivers are spread over a range of 6 feet.
Is that a good design? I think not !
