This idea occurred to me when we were talking about the ViV Rigid Float arm.

For those of us brought up with a respect for alignment error, this seems like heresy.  Nevertheless, torsional forces on the cantilever from offset could be worse on SQ than more alignment error.  Just for the record (pun intended), protractor manufacturers who equate a percentage of alignment error with a corresponding percentage of distortion, are full of crap.  In order to truthfully make such a correlation they would need a distortion analyzer and precise measurements of corresponding stylus placement.  Even then they would have to assume all of the distortion is from alignment and not something else.

Getting on with it, ViV arms start at $4.3K which is a little more than I care to experiment with.   Enter Stanton DJ tables with straight arms, only they look like the arm mounting is wrong for correct underhang.  Solution - buy the arm and mount it on an existing table, which would also give you a comparison.

The counterweight is $16.
