SUBJECT: Haute Fidelite Magazine Award For Bryston 3.14

December 2020

“Hi James

I am pleased to send you the review on the Bryston BDA3.14 model published in the Haute Fidélité magazine and for which this product has received an Award.”

Pascal

VERDICT

True high digital hub resolution.

State of the Art in its demands and musical performance, the BDA-3.14 won't disappoint aficionados of the brand, nor the audiophiles who seek musical performance and range of functions combined in one device.

The internal sotfware control by the web, probably is a little less ergonomic visually than the  best dedicated applications, but has the merit of being complete, upgradeable and not requiring WiFi

The quality internal streamer is followed by one of the best DACs currently available at this price and even beyond, an incredible density in musicality, efficient on all parameters.

SUBJECT: Bryston Surround System – Customer Feedback

March 2021

“Hi James,

I had a chance to hear this all Bryston Surround system recently.

The passion for music is something I believe we have in common! I’ve been fascinated by the music since my childhood….

My passion for Bryston products comes since I listened to the 4B for the first time almost 20 years ago… I got really excited when I learned that Mustansir was building a room dedicated to Bryston only!

The Bryston room that Mustansir has built is just a dream.

This  room is just what I would like to have in my home! Great design, great materials great decoration and great finishing! Every single detail is taken care of.

And the star of the show is the end-to-end Bryston system. I can only say that I went with a friend last week once it was fully set up for a listening session… and I spent almost 4 hours there!

The listening experience in the Bryston room is as close as it gets to a live performance!”

Regards,
Pablo Martinez

Conclusion

The B1353 surprised me.

It represents a bigger leap in price over the B135 SST2  than that model did over the B100 SST. But I think it offers a bigger leap in sound quality.

While I would never dismiss the quality of those earlier Brystons, the B135 Cubed is the best integrated amplifier yet from the venerable Canadian firm.

Its sound was even more musical than that of the B135 SST2, with levels of ease and smoothness not only new to Bryston, but rare among solid-state amplification I’ve heard from anyone at any price. It isn’t cheap, but its price is not outlandish for high-end audio.

And it’s further set apart from the competition by Bryston’s 20-year warranty and standard-setting customer service.

The late Brian Russell, his brother Chris, and the whole Bryston team should be enormously proud of what, together, they have built..

Hi James,

“Here's something I'm really happy to see at Bryston -- a product that
not only represents quality and great performance, but a product that  pushes the envelope on performance.

Since those Cubed upgrades brought the distortion and noise down, and now this level of performance out of a combo preamp-DAC, it really puts Bryston in a top position.

James, the team decided a ‘Reviewers Choice’ was warranted, which we give to products that represent Exceptional  Value and/or State-of-the-Art performance. Probably both are valid here.”

In Use:

I ran this amplifier for a couple of weeks, first into my old VAF Research Signature I93 floorstanding loudspeakers – they have a nominal impedance of 3 ohms – and then into my new Dynaudio Contour 20i stand mount speakers – they have a nominal impedance of 4 ohms.

The amp did a superb job of controlling the bass end of the VAF speakers – they have a couple of 203mm woofers and a solid output down to 21 hertz, if the amplifier can deliver.

The Bryston B1353 did, with speed and remarkable control. My 20-year-old VAFs aren’t really the thing anymore for gorgeous mids and highs –they’re pretty old. It was the Dynaudio Contour 20i speakers which showed what a seductively smooth performer this amp can be, especially with a wide range of classical and jazz.

Yet when I threw some of Eminems The Slim Shady LP at it, the amp drove the speakers with superb punch and rhythmic intensity.

I wouldn’t hesitate to use any quality loudspeakers with this amplifier.

The consistently high praise in Philip’s review left our team in no doubt that the B135 Cubed deserved a Reviewers’ Choice award when the review was published, and that it merits

 'Recommended Reference Component' recognition now.

If you want super-bling you may need to look elsewhere. If you want an effects box with over emphasised bass and treble you will have to look elsewhere. If you want real music then you have found it. Whilst these amplifiers are not cheap, their prices provide exceptional value for money. They are guaranteed for 20 years. What more do you want? The prices, BP17-3 and the 3B-3 power amplifier ...not cheap but they are the best amps I have heard and they saw off some far more expensive items.

Hi Folks,

I have reviews coming from Absolute Sound and Soundstage Magazine shortly on the BR-20 and a review on the Bryston Phono stage from Secrets of Home Theater - which as the British say is a 'corker'

Also a review from Absolute Sound on the B135 Integrated Amplifier.

Hi James and all Bryston community,
I just ordered SP3 and 9B cubed 5 channel amp as a replacement (and a HUGE upgrade) for my old Rotel RSX 1560 processor. I have no flexibility (room-wise) to have separate equipment for my stereo and surround sound and, since we are listening to music from the moment last person is out of bed :), Bryston - with its stellar reputation for both audio quality and reliability - was one of the top contenders. After quite a lot of research I have decided Bryston combo will be the best for us.  I realize that it will take some time to get these with the chip shortage, but I can wait a couple of months after waiting quite a few years  :D! I have to say that I have not been able to find any 9B cubed reviews or to listen to it so some would say this was not a wise decision. But after reading a lot of reviews and having my best friend - who lives at the other coast now, but is a proud Bryston owner - highly recommend Bryston I have faith :)). I am wondering if 9B cubed is based on 3B cubed amp? The specs look very similar. Are those couple of reviews of 3B cubed representative of 9B cubed performance in stereo?

Hi Igor,

Welcome to Bryston sir. :thumb:

Yes the 9B is based on the Cubed version of the 3B.

I am sorry for the wait but it has been a real challenge over the past few months to get parts so everything is backed up.

best

Thanks gbaby - it is great to hear the enthusiasm for Bryston from all corners of the music reproduction world :)! I am really looking forward to hearing the SP3 and 9B3 in my space :). Don't really care much for all the bells and whistles (all I want is a great stereo sound and a great 5.1 or 7.1 multichannel sound) so, as you said, I think this is the right decision!!

SUBJECT: Bryston – Howard Gladstone – Middle TREX

Hi James

I was thinking about the Middle TREX Active system I recently heard at your home.

I was listening to my own system today with the big PMCs and thought how the sound from your system was in comparison.

The sound from the Bryston Middle TREX  system was bigger and  had a higher soundstage -  makes sense since the drivers are placed at a higher level. "

More than that - the system sounded so effortless… it did not even break a sweat.

I have never liked that Carmen suite (my own taste) as I think the strings sound harsh and grating on the ears -  your Bryston Middle T system played it back perfectly.  So that is a compliment.

The country and blues and acoustic music you played sounded realistic and accurate and no fault could be found.

Cheers
Howard
