Have never been able to get into Monk.  Need to give him another shot.  Suppose it's a bit like eggplant.  Or Pinot Noir.  My tastes change over time.  I also need to find a good used record store in the Bay Area--this paying $30 and up for records is getting expensive!  We had Everyday Music in Portland, and it's where I got most of my records.  Some of which were junk, but most responded very well to a vacuuming with my Nitty Gritty.

There should be some great stores in the Bay area. As for Monk, I would give this one a listen. This is the one that pulled me in.

Bob,
I'm sure there are some good shops, but I just haven't gotten around to exploring yet.  Thanks for the tip on Monk--I'll give it a shot.

Here's what I've been listening to in the interim...

A little Bill Evans--this album just soothes me..

and a little more 80s groove:  Manhattan Transfer...

Bob,
I found what appears to be a great used vinyl store in Fremont/Niles--Needle to the Groove :D

Looking forward to checking it out.  Unfortunately they have bankers, er musician hours:  noon to 6:00.

The weather is fantastic here now. Red Lanta is a fine album.

One of the few of Garbarek's that I enjoy. A skilled musician to be sure, but he gets a little too far out for my tastes more often than not. Another one of the garage finds. So did you check your garage ?

I was just thinking it was another garage find in the back on my mind lol. If I found records in my garage they would be all melted together in a great big chunk.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how well they survived in mine for 15+ yrs in storage. While we don't get the extended high heat that you do, we do (at my location) get a fair number of 90 & several 100 degree days. Garage is detached, and not insulated, so it gets warm in summer. Have gone thru about 80% of the bin so far, very few 'clunkers', actually most of those are ones where my tastes have simply changed with the times. Good music, some excellent recordings, they just don't hit the notes they did at one time.

Should be getting cool enough for you to fire up those tubes, save on the evening heating energy. Will be looking for some glowing backgrounds in your posts soon.  8)
