Given its rather obviously evocative shape and the fact that it is made from "crotch" mahogany, I'd say "The Freud".

Brian -

Hey, since it's history hour, I've actually been to Luxor, and to Aswan to see the giant, unfinished obelisk left in the bedrock there (it cracked before they could try and stand it up), and I can say it's pretty unbelievable how HUGE these monoliths were.  They were carved out of the rock by slaves, who would use little round stones to pound against the granite...

I stood on the partially completed obelisk in Aswan as well - quite an impressive piece of work.  I just couldn't figure out how they cut it.  I only wish they would have left the other obelisk in Luxor rather than gifting it to France.  Just seems like something is missing in Luxor.

OK, I guess the top won't win a popularity contest.  But it does look better in person and it is an essential part of an obelisk (which was the original inspiration for the design).  Next time I think I will veneer it.  This time around, I was just glad I could figure out all the angles.  I actually cut parts for the top five times before I got the angles right and the bevels fit together properly.

How 'bout Rook, as in the chess piece?

That's what came to mind when I saw the pics, which are beautiful. :thumb:

Well two obelisk looking objects with sound emanating from them...
That is like a gate isn't it?
Well, If we look at it like two pyramidal things ... the Sphinx is the closest object... and the Sphinx is a lion.

Leo is the Latin name for lion... Only two obelisks on the planet (out of a total of 30...) share the same name:

C"Leo"patra's needle. One in England, and One in the US actually share that name...
So then two Leo named obelisks... that is our gate isn't it? The LION GATE . or jaws of thunder?
The lions gate bridge has two towers...

I thing these two speakers could be looked at like two lions fangs. There as twelve species of lions mind you...
The loudest noise made by any mammal is the lions roar! (JBL = Jolly big lion... he he!!!)

If it is to be a Salk speakers...
Salk Lions Gate ...
Salk twelve
Salk twin lion
Salk two lions.
Salk Obelisk twins
Salk Lions tooth.
Salk monumental twins
Salk Sphinx
Salk Monumental
Salk Lions Roar
Salk Supermane (lions mane)
Salk twin-Lion

Uhm... This was way more difficult to name than the other pair of songtowers.

But these a REALLY big arent they what 5-6 feet high?
6 feet is a Furlong... in length...

No.... I like Monument and Obelisk!!!

It looks like the JBL 2206H woofer, is it? The woofer in this speaker?

Kubrick

You're thinking the same way I am on this one...  From Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke's "2001: A Space Odyssey"

Salk 2001's
Salk Tycho
Salk TMA-1

"In the novel, TMA-1 (the site of the discovery of the monolith) stands for Tycho Magnetic Anomaly-1"

Maybe a bit too nerdy for Jim, but I like it!  Come to think of it... Maybe the monoliths in 2001/2010 were giant space speakers.... hrm...

Good one!!!

Now.. Since it is being talked about Arthur C here...
How about Salk Monumental A(rthur) ... Dubbed the Salk Monumental A

The last knight of the round table... out of 12, is Tristan.
The Salk Tristan 12 ...
Salk Monument ... I like that one! Monument! Or Monumental Obelisk ... or something...

I think the JL audio Sub is called the Fathom isn't it? The JL Fathom 113 or something?

How about Salk Soundhenge ... like Stonehenge... Monumental sounding...

Look up at the two stones standing there all alone outside of Stonehenge...

And the five twin pillar stones making up the interior of stonehenge...

Edit: Blast! The Firm Sonance already have a "SoundHenge" speaker...

I'd try that.  I'd also do metal rods to replace the wood dowels that run front to back between the cabinet and the plinth.  That would tie things together.

Heck, if you do a pair with brass/gold tops and something like a burled ash, it would really look like an Egyptian obelisk.  :)

Now we're talking.  I'd have to give you credit for the idea however.

Well ... the stone that spoke several languages...
The Rosetta stone
The Salk TRS .

Hieroglyph.. So here is the word "OBELISK" in glyph's!!!

There is you engraving! Say on a plaque at the base!
Or for a premium one could get ones name engraved in the metal cap! In glyph's!  :D

The site: http://www.egyptvoyager.com/hieroglyph_archives.htm
The translator (pop up) : http://www.egyptvoyager.com/hieroglyph_translator.htm

And here is a very ( Off topic) interesting article at this site (Giza...) http://www.egyptvoyager.com/pyramids_giza_sphinxage_1.htm

There is a structure known as the Osireion (the oldest structure known to be made by man still in existance... 12-18 thousand years old maybe...
That has a inscription on it known as the "Flower of life" or Metatrons cube.
This is a mathematical symbol that predates the supposedly greek math world by at least 11 thousand years. Hey, it's there carved in the stone! Go figure...
Its name is also know as the triode... Go figure again...
I bet you did not know that... !
Oh yeah, and then there is the Pillars of Osireion. The oldest stone pillars known to man...

No need to give credit, but be sure to post a pic if someone orders one like that.
