Custom build in Navy blue automotive and burled maple

Ciro wanted a pair of speakers that were originally designed as a DIY project by Troels Gravesen.

He wanted the basic cabinet done in a Navy blue automotive finish and the front baffle done in burled maple.

This was a rather complicated built with many chamfers to deal with. So it was a rather expensive one-off.

Here are the results...

Every cabinet is different. But we are working on some new cabinet designs using chamfers and will have templates for them.

Did Dennis do the crossover? Or is a straight Troels crossover design?

The customer could have used Troels crossover design, but decided to have another designer work on the crossovers for these. So we did not have a chance to listen to them.

The drivers were the ScanSpeak Ellipticor tweeter and ScanSpeak 7" Illuminator woofer. Since we did not do the crossover design, I'm not sure of the sensitivity, but based on the T/S parameters of the woofer, it would likely be in the 84-85 db range.

Gorgeous. The striking combo of paint and wood is balanced and complimentary to my eye. But then I like the idea of unconventional looking speakers and shaking up old traditions.

They are simply another approach to diffraction control (and some people think they look nice too).

Wow! What a thought. The polished wooden dashboard of the iconic 1965 Jaguar Saloon; and the British racing green on the sides. That would be simply awesome!

I agree, for a car.

But OMG, the wood on these speakers is gorgeous. It needs to be on the whole speaker, not auto paint!!!
