Watch here for more specific information over the next couple of days, but wanted to start to get the word out that I'll be hosting a demo on August 29th at my place of Crescendo Systems Amplifiers and Electrostatic Speakers with the low end being delivered by Rythmik Subwoofers. Both Kim Beumer of Crescendo and Brian Ding of Rythmik have graciously agreed to get set up at my place on the 29th, listening positions will be limited and we won't have any second systems set up, so we'll be trying to manage loosely to a schedule for listening set intervals so folks can plan their days, but there will be food (BYOB on alcohol) and the opportunity to hang out downstairs and visit in between turns in the listening seats. If you've had the chance to hear either of these company's products you know this should be a pretty exciting session. If you're interested in getting on the list to attend, please e-mail me at

I've been dying to hear both the Crescendo electrostats and the Rythmik subs so to get both on the same day! Ohhh boy, if it's ok with you I am so there! :thumb:
Art,
I think designating a schedule/time slot is a great idea, that way everyone gets to spend some quality time giving these a serious listen. I'm really excited about those big ass electrostats!

UPDATE!
Danny Richie has agreed to bring the UberBuss for a demo, and Aaron Lindsey of Appogg Isolation Systems will have his new to the market isolation platforms there, both on display in my system, and static so you can check them out up close!

Which models will be Brian be demoing?

Geo - Signature models, sealed, but we haven't landed on the 12" or 15" yet....(I'm voting for 15 or both!)

Can't forget to mention we'll also have the new KCI Silkworm+ and Silkworm SE with Xhadow connectors and other upgraded changes. they'll be both in the system and on display...

This is getting sweeter by the minute! Those platforms are fantastic, I'm lucky enough to have a few demo units in my system right now and they are something else! I haven't had the chance to lay my hands on one of the Uberbuss conditioners but now I will-sweet. aa
Well Art, even though you have some of the newest Silkworms if you would like me to bring some of the new Silkworm+ cables so yours don't have to be removed from your system I'd be happy to do that. Power cords?? Just let me know and I'll throw some in the truck and head on up.
John
Edit: Well Art, your post wasn't there when I started typing this, guess I'm a slow typer! lol.

John,
Can you swing by RC to give me a ride on your way to Art's?

Sure Hugh! Oh, where's RC??

I don't think you want to do that since RC (Rancho Cucamonga) is in CA. ;)

Art or Danny,
Do you know off hand how many outlets that Uberbuss has? What is the current limit on that baby? Thanks.

John
John,
While I am neither Art or Danny, I can tell you that the Uber Buss has four outlets (just like the Majik Buss).
As for the current limit...I thought it was such a silly high number that it basically wouldn't limit current for all practical applications.
Regardless, I know that it improves the sound of my system and I am using an honest 13-15 amps from the wall. Certainly no current or dynamic limiting going on here.

Hi George,
Great, thank you for the info. I'm also glad to hear that you are impressed with it, that's good news! :thumb: I hope you're doing well and let me know if you ever need another cable/s, I'm here for ya! lol.
Best,
John
-
Ok here is my annual dumb question  And if I am retracing old ground I am sorry. If you need more than four outlets (I do). Can you plug two Majik BUSS's into the same house circuit or even the same outlet using both plugs? Also if you wanted to get the 20A Versions just to make sure you were covered or had head room so to speak how would that play if you you were using two on the same house circuit or same outlet using both plugs? I hope this question isn't to elementary but my electrical knowledge is not what I would like it to be.
Kind Regards,
Guy

Update for those interested in coming on the 29th.
Looks like we'll try to get started around 11AM and be wrapped up around 6:30PM, but as always the end time may be adjusted depending on need.
We're going to try and break the day up into listening session slots of 90 minutes for groups of 8 or so. This willl give ample time for everyone to listen from different seats, get a demo and look at the PI, KCI, and Appogg products, as well as time to ask questions and talk with the manufacturers or distributors who will be in attendance.
When e-mailing to confirm attanedance, if you would please let me know which room time slot you will be targeting, that will help me manage people flow more effectively.
Times are 11:00-12:30 / 12:30-2:00 / 2:00-3:30 / 3:30 -5:00 / 5:00-6:30
Thanks much!
-
Good news! It looks like we will have a second demo system downstairs!
Danny Richie will be bringing a surprise speaker for all of us, Gary Dodd will have his new Battery Powered Tube Amp (it's really good) and Battery Pre there, and Hugh Nguyen (US Distributor of Onix) has agreed to supply the Onix Reference XCD-50 CD Player and the XIA 160 integrated Amp.
This somewhat relieves the need to schedule too tightly for a single listening room, and should make the day more interesting for all with two rooms to check out now!
Remember 11:00AM until 6:30PM (ish) on Saturday 8/29. E-mail if you want directions on how to get to my place, I will not be posting them.
-
I also neglected to mention John Prator of KCI cables will be here in person to show his full lineup (including his newest models) and discuss anything you may want to know about his cabling.

Anyone looking for a lift from Austin (or anywhere between Austin/DFW), let me know.
-
I'm looking forward to hearing Danny's new speaker for sure.
-
Okay, this new speaker turned out way better than I thought. I have been working on building some nice looking (finished) cabinets that I think I can have completed by Monday or so.
Did I mention that it was all open baffle?
It looks like that on top of Gary bringing the new battery powered tube amp, he may also have another surprise in store.
-
Sweet Danny! Bump for the thread, please e-mail me if you're coming so I can put you on the distro for directions!
-
Wow, this is shaping up to be quite an event. So many things I'd like to hear and people I'd like to meet. Sometimes it seems that Ohio is the furthest away from the action I can possibly be.. :duh:

Maybe Hugh can pick you up on his way back from getting George! :D
This is shaping up to be a fun day, looking at approximately 20-25 people at this point so we shouldn't be too overcrowded either...
-
I spent all day cutting some really nice looking side panels for the Venuette. I found some really nice Ash in just the right size and from a continuous piece so all the grain matches.
Now I know why they make baseball bats out of Ash.
Shaping four pieces into a fancy shape using hand tools was not fun, and took way longer than I wanted it to. This wood is almost impossible to sand. :duh: At least it will look really good. :green:

Next weekend is going to be a blast! can't wait to hear them Danny :thumb:

This is going to really cool!
Danny new mystery speaker and those massive stats w/servo subs. Can't afford to miss this one! :thumb:

As long as he's hopping around the country in his private jet, he might as well pick me up at the Columbus airport.... :thumb:
Seriously though, if it was a 1 day drive I'd probably do it. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you guys and hear some of this great gear at RMAF.

This is all great stuff. Can't wait to check out all the toys and mingle with everyone there. I'll bring some beers!

Should be great Nhan! Thnaks to you and Hugh for arranging the Onix gear, can't wait to hear that player... :D

Sent out the info to everyone via e-mail, if you didn't get anything from me, please let me know. Still plenty of room for more and no time slots anymore thanks to the second system downstairs! :thumb:

Here we come. :thumb:

Cant wait to see some photos, since i couldnt make this one. :green:

Art,
Thank you to you and your family for opening your home and hosting such a great event today!
The food and more importantly the audio was great! I was really blown away by the sound of those GR OBs downstairs (your room upstairs wasn't bad either ).
Thanks for a perfect day all around!

Gabriel, glad you could make it, it was great meeting you.
A big shout out to all the manufacturers who made today possible. Kim from Cresecendo, Brian from Rythmik, Danny from GR, Gary from Dodd Audio, Aaron from Appogg Systems, Nhan and Hugh from Onix, and last but not least, the wild man himself John from KCI/Usher. Special mention also to Ken who made it by last night to help carry and setup. You guys made a great day possible for all of us, many thanks for the labor that went into it, it was truly a blast and I hope it in someway helps your business.
All of you who made it by today, thank you for the reminder of what really makes this hobby great, the people. What a terrific day to share together.
-
Yes, Art. Thank you very much. Excellent time. Could not imagine a better event.

Art,
A BIG thanks to you and your wife for opening up your beautiful home and all of the work you did to make this weekend a BIG success. I had a great time and got to hear some very very good gear. Gary's battery tube amp and line stage buffer (if that is correct) is the bomb
Hearing Danny's new speakers which where very nice makes me want to do more work to my P-Audio BM-12CX38's.
Art once again thank you for the everything and it was great to see everyone again. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Warm Regards,
Guy
-
Art thanks for having us in your home and thanks to all for bringing all the great audio equipment. It was a very fun and learning experience.
-
I'll make a few initial comments about the downstairs system. As it was totally unfamiliar to me, quite frankly it would be inappropriate for me to assign any attribute to a particular component. However, here are some general thoughts...
Gary Dodd's new battery powered pre-amp and amp were things of lust. Very compact, and appeared to be very well built. The Onyx CD player was an impressivly large and solid component.
As for the speakers...given Danny's price point for this kit they should be on every DIY'ers short list. Danny had mounted the crossover exposed on the back of the speaker - I thought this was a very sexy feature. I mean, why hide such audio jewelry? My only suggestion would be to mount the components (caps, inductors, etc.) on the top of the board, and the connections between the components on the bottom of the board.
I'd really like to hear this system again after a couple hundred hours of intensive play.
-
Thanks Art and Cathy for putting up with a lot of loud and crazy guys. I had a great time listening to the equipment and just as much if not more meeting people and talking audio.
Next? Austin? Be20 party aa
Marvin
-
Thanks Art and Cathy for putting up with all of our mess. I sure had fun and good eats as well. I also want to thank everyone for the comments on the new gear I have. And Danny sure can make a nice looking and very good sounding speaker in a pinch! I met several new people and enjoyed every minute of it . Great day for all! :thumb:
Gary
-
Thanks to Art for hosting us all!
I had a great time listening to the electrostats, LS9 and V2. I had not seen the LS9 upclose and was awestruck with its sheer size and presence. Sounded wonderful too! The bass they are capable of in nothing short of amazing! :o :o
The electrostats also sounded great once it warmed up, though the sheer size of those panel would disqualify most of our listening rooms. Same goes with those LS9s. Those things are -huge-. Art is indeed blessed to have such a great listening room and topnotch gear! :thumb:
Danny has another winner on his hands! :thumb: They were lot smaller than what i expected and should fit in most rooms without any issues.
-
Art,
Thanks for a terrific time. As always you are a number one host. :D

Nhan let do lunch soon and I have your cables bag.
Thanks for bringing my bag today, a Trung. Sorry I couldn't make it in time for lunch with you, Mark, and Gary Mark, thanks for not giving up on me :D I was finishing my work out and got caught up with helping my nephew with some stuff.
I'm glad I did the heavy lifting with all those Onix equipment from my car yesterday, instead of today. I could hardly carry the cables bag back to my car today :(
Anyways, let's shoot for lunch next weekend if you gents are available--it's on me.
-
Art,
Thanks so much for hosting this event. Also, please thank Kathy for being such a wonderful wife and pitching in to help you with the cooking and setup ;)
It was a wonderful opportunity to demo so many great toys! The Dodd pre's and mono amps were beauties and sounded great. Danny did a bang up job in 2 weeks to get those speakers ready for this GTG...what a great sounding pair they were (even in the challenged environment). How'd they sound in the upstairs room, btw?
John's KCI cables were kick-ass, as well as some of Danny's cables. I guess my cables (interconnects and speaker) were the 'weak links' in the downstairs system, as after they were replaced by the Silkworm Plus and Danny's speaker cables (sorry, I forgot the name), I noticed a pretty nice change in sound.
The Crescendos sounded very nice (from where I was sitting) after they were warmed up. I didn't get a chance to sit in one the middle seats (as I was so busy running around), so I couldn't provide very good feedback.
I was going to post some pictures, but we (Art and I) know why I can't :D I was hoping that if I leave enough things at Art's house, that he'd let me move into the CLS9 room ;)
-
Nhan
To me Danny's new speakers sounded much better up stairs than down stairs, and they were good down stairs.
