I am also looking at Amperex 7308s and Bugle Boys...

Which Bugle Boy should I look for?  What is the voltage on these two tubes?

Ted

The filament voltage is 6.3V for the 6DJ8/6922/7308/E88CC/ECC88/E188CC series.

So I am starting my tube rolling adventure on the DIY DODD Buffer.  Plus, this is my first tubed equipment...

I have a
1 Amperex ECC88, Holland Orange, 1969
2 Amperex ECC88, 1961
3 Mullard ECC88, Orange A-Frame
4 6922 Amperex

What voltage setting do I use on the buffer for each of these?  How do I figure it out for future tube rolling?

Use the 6VDC setting for the buffer for those tubes.

The 12Axx family and the european equivalents use 12VDC setting for the filament voltage.

I am now the proud owner of a NOS Amperex JAN 7308 White label, 1966 version.  I have been using a nice GE 5751, the Amperex is quite a bit better across the board.  The 7308 seems to have a more even balance across the frequencies, this is especially noticeable in when comparing the instrument levels to the vocals, the 5751 seemed to push the instruments back and at lower levels than the 7308.  The 7308 has better high and low frequency extension than the 5751 as well.  The mids seem just a bit sweeter on the 7308, this is all with very little time on the tube.

I bought the tube from Stance1 on Agon, the transaction was smooth with good communication and quick shipping.  I will not hesitate to buy from him again.

This is my 1000 post!  I suppose it is fitting it is on the GR circle. :thumb:

Yep, Ed: a real Amperex 7308 is absolutely the best tube I have ever heard in this application.  They have that "they are here" quality on vocals, don't they?

Hi Dave,
The vocals definitely sound great with this tube but what struck me initially was the bass and treble, definitely better than the 5751.  This tube is reported to be NOS, it looks it with the exception of some spots of discoloration on the pins, I expect that I will hear some slight changes as I get a few hours on it but I am really likeing what I am hearing now.

Any updates?  Those of you that have the single tube version have you tried the 6H30?

If so, watcha think compared to the 7308's?

Trung has one in his buffer and really likes its sound in the DIY thread.  He had to install a much bigger heatsink on the filament regulator to keep it cool.  The filament current goes from 380mA for the 7308 to 900mA for the 6H30.  The filament regulator will be dissipating a max of 6.4 watts!  :o

I have the Sovtek 6H30Pi tube here and trying to install a big heatsink in the buffer to give it a try.

I'm converting my 2 tube buffer to a single tube unit JUST so I can run the 6H30.  In my old Cary SLP50B (modded, of course) it was THE tune, better than anything else including 7308s.  The EH gold [in variants were the best IMO.

Can someone post where to get one of these tubes to try out?  I will have to add the heatsink, but maybe it will be worth it ;)

Has anyone confirmed the authenticity of the tube from MSSHIFI?

I bought my Reflector 6H30 Pi supertubes from Russian guy on ebay.
There is one going on for $50 (that's very good price) or pairs for $100.
I bought 3 - pair for my cd player and single for Dodd buffer.

So is there an audible difference between the EH, Sovtec, and the Other brands of 6H30 Pi tubes?

Oh yeah, I think I know the answer, but will these tubes work in a Lite Audio DAC 60?

These are the most desirable 6H30 tubes and most expensive as well.

I had my shipped from Moscow for an average $60 per tube (shipping included)
