I'm in - good project for Christmas vacation!

How big do the heat sinks have to be?

Hi Jeff
My heatsink is 10 x 2.5 x2.5 inches . After half hour it reaches about 60 deg c  at the output tran s --2n 3055. The teemp on the heatsink is only about 50 deg c.
I am in a tropical climate with ambient temp of about 28 deg c.

i describe the sound as very valve like but with the speed and control of trans

I am having trouble finding a heat sink like that for the TO3.
Let me know if you see any like that around with a flat surface
and then the fins.

Also how about speaker protection - if these short do they burn out
the speakers etc?

I do not use speaker protection. I leave the amp playing with my test speaker for 2 hrs before I hook up to the mail speaker.
The amp  design is established and if there is no error or thermal runaway  there should not be any major problem.
I have a speaker protection unit that I did not use.
When you power down, there is a diminishing cracking sound .

2sc 3280 is a substitute for the 2n 3055 and is in T o 3 P .
