An avid customer recently sent me some independently measured test results for the Bugle PowerSupply 1/2-kit. Noise and ripple on the outputs read about 0.5mV at both zero and full load current. The negative supply being slightly noisier.
The customer commented: "This is excellent performance and shows when competently designed, the much maligned 78 series regulators are capable of outstanding results." I would have to agree.
Although the 78xx and 79xx are not the pinnacle of linear regulator design, they can achieve decent performance. Quite good for the money.
