Townshend Rock TT - Damaged

This table was shipped completely assembled with platter, sub-platter and bearing in place. No wedge was used to lift platters off bearing. This places undue forces on the bearing and its contact surfaces. Bearing and oil well were completely dry. Bearing was stuck at top of sub-platter sleeve. A 48 hr soak in oil required to free it. Once freed all parts thoroughly cleaned, and re-assembled with fresh bearing oil. Close inspection reveals significant damage -- pitting, gouging and damage to all bearing related surfaces (ie: bearing, top of thrust plate, and top of sub-platter sleeve that rides on bearing and fits over thrust plate). Extent of damage suggests that not only was table stored and shipped improperly, but it was likely operated dry without bearing fluid for an extended period of time. Damage and wear is so significant that upon reassembly sub-platter is collapsed down such that there is no plinth clearance. It is locked-up, won't spin freely. Motor can't turn it. Platter is also without clearance and rubbing on plinth surface. Table is not usable in current condition. A new thrust plate, bearing and sub-platter sleeve must be machined. EXPENSIVE!!
