Need help with Panasonic 9000 and AVA DAC
« on: 18 May 2020, 12:41 pm »
I just purchased a Panasonic UB-9000 4K player brand new. I hooked it up to my TV with HDMI from the video output. Then I hooked up the coax to my AVA DAC. Music CD's play fine, but when I put in a Blu-ray Disc, the picture works but I only get noise. Frank’s DAC can only decode PCM. My Oppo 203 output was set to PCM. The Panasonic does not tell me what it’s output is set to. I have changed every setting that I think it could be, to no avail. I don’t want to send the unit back unless it’s defective. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My Panasonic is on back order (so temporarily using the old Oppo 203 but have disconnected my external DAC for now) for a couple of weeks.  Just upgraded the UHD TV that I got last Thursday.  Have you set HDMI audio as off?  How about the downmix settings?  Obviously, I'll know more when I get the UB9000 and have a chance to play with it.  It will be my UHD system (even though I have a preamp with HT Bypass and a 2-channel amp) which is not my main audio system.  I was using the Oppo 203 with an outboard DAC and iFi Tube Buffer but have decided since both the 203 and the UB9000 will be in secondary systems which rarely get used for audio the players are fine connected via the analog outs to the preamp.

Thanks Phil, I think the HDMI audio out only is off, but l’ll check when I get home. I don’t have anything hooked up there.

I think you need to select the audio output for each of the multichannel formats.

Audio  >  Digital Audio Output  >  Dolby Audio  >  PCM

Audio  >  Digital Audio Output  >  DTS/DTS-HD  >  PCM

Srb,
Do you know where I access this? The manual doesn’t say.

The manual is online.  I already downloaded it (even though I don't have the player yet).  Was the same with the 4k TV I just got.  The paperwork that came with it was very basic but there is an online manual.  I keep them in a folder on my PC (and back them up on a spare hard drive) so if I ever need to find something or print a page it is there.

Thanks both of you for the help! I don’t know why my picture turned sideways.

If the pic is from your gallery, you can correct it.  Taken with an iPhone?  That's what happens usually.
