Hi from Spain,

Weeks ago I tried your soft (trial) to make FLAC 24/192 -> FLAC 24/96 and the new sound is very good, congratulations. With very good recordings and high DR off course.

In my system, very optimized to play multimedia, I can easy detect the differences between MP3 320 kbps, Ogg q9 or q10, FLAC 16/* and FLAC 24/*.

I have a question:

And between FLAC 0 and FLAC 4 or 8 too <- What do you think it is due to?

I have a lot of questions. Maybe a new thread.

Hi from Russia,

Thank you for kind words, Maty.

FLAC contains absolutelly identical binary content for any compresion level (including uncompressed FLAC).

There is hypthesis, that FLAC upacking can cause additinal consuming of computer resources and additional noise in the audio system.

It may be observed via spectrum analyzis of analog output of DAC. But still nobody show it.

So while no safe evidences, that compressed FLAC cause some quality issues.

And you can use optimal for you comression level.

Best regards,
Yuri

Yes, I have the same hypothesis, the CPU load. More load -> more noise.

More incredible, if I make a special degrag of the audio files the sound is better, without a doubt. The CPU load must be the same if not equal. Your hypothesis?

Now: i5 4460.

It is not my hypothesis. I read it in one of FLAC discussions.

Unfortunatelly, I have no proper hardware spectrum analyzer to execute experiment.

Also it may depend on system, if the hypothesis will proved even.

Why almost all music from digital masters between 80's and late nineties sound bad or not as well as they should?

Most of the music that gets me excited comes from analog masters before the eighties.

My hypothesis is that the old ADC/DAC and clocks added a lot of jitter to the master. What do you think?

It is need to learn each system [from ADC to DAC] for jitter.

I suppose, modern CDs are recorded, mixed in high resolution on powerful computers. It give higher sound quality, than elder CDs.

High resolution give more opportunities to reduce measurable distortions in audible range. These things may be observed objectively.

There is huge distange between digital music production devices in 80's (and 90's even) and current ones.

I played in bands since 80's. If look from 80's/90's, current equipment/software like to miracle :)

After many tests, usually with this recoder said recordings improve or do not sound to bad. When 24/96 -> 24/96 or 24/192 -> 24/96. FLAC 0 1024 kpbs.

[IMG] http://maty.galeon.com/WP-imagenes/foobar2000/foobar2000-convert-profiles-sssrc-96-intermediate-93_9.png

Until a month ago, before my last optimizacion, the pass band at 95%

The master clocks of these years had a lot of jitter -> jitter in the digital master -> jitter in cassette, CD, vinyl...

Off course, the new softs are much better.

And, with your soft the sound is better than SoX or SSRC with these bad recordings or older/modern too!

Thank you for feedback and kind words, Maty! :)

In AuI ConverteR for each of input/output sample rate combinations, individually and manually adjusted filters are used. May be it give improvement.

May be ultrasound elimination give effect too.
