DAC Drivers
« on: 22 Mar 2019, 02:30 am »
Hi All,

Does anyone know the difference between the various DAC driver options?

I was hoping one of these drivers might have better streaming audio performance (lower resource drain or more resilient against page faults).  Currently I'm having a few issues with Tidal.

TIA!

Just get the latest as mentioned in the product page.  The older versions are just there for historical reason in the directory.
The product page only list the latest version.

For DAC-10H, the new driver doesn't allow as much flexibility in setting the size of the buffer.  With Tidal on my machine (highly optimized for streaming audio), it leads to frequent drop outs.  I rolled back to an older driver with larger buffer settings, and dropouts are no longer occurring.

It would be good to understand the change notes for the different drivers to ensure no unintended negative consequences when rolling back.

Very interesting.  The driver is provided by the USB chip supplier (in this case, XMOS) and only updated due to Windows upgrade.
