Beat the HST
« on: 12 May 2010, 07:20 pm »
I just ordered a BASH 300 sub amp from Creative Sound Solutions.  http://www.creativesound.ca/

Just an FYI, once the HST comes in, all these toys will cost 8% more...

Buy 'em while you can, on the cheap!

Have fun my GTA friends,

Yes the ever festive Candian Tax system evolves again, and my province (state for y'all) will have a new tax applicable to most items.

I just had hardwood installed on the main floor of my home too, duck that 8% while you can!

The HST is a good thing. In the end it is an overall tax reduction. Over the long term products from companies should cost less, as any PST business currently pay, will turn into HST and will be refunded.

Look at what happened in the Maritimes. HST was a positive move.

Consumers will pay extra tax on things that currently have GST but no PST... mostly luxury items. Taxes on things that have GST + PST will be the same (ignoring that due to lowered taxes on business, actual cost of lots of stuff should move downwards).

Business will be more competitive, leading to more jobs....

You mean luxury items like natural gas & electicity? Ya, awesome idea.

Not in BC. Yax on electricity actually drops 0.4%

This rationalizations of VAT is long overdue. I'm a supporter of higher sales tax and lower income tax. All taxes on the sales side would be a very good thing IMHO, but with all the vested interests of tax lawyers, tax accountants, and the unions with people working at RevCan, not likely to happen anytime soon.

HST means less total VAT flowing into the government. They are counting on volume from more efficient businesses, doing more business, and hiring and paying more workers,

I'm all for lower income tax too. Somehow, I really don't think that's going to happen. HST or not.
My tax return refund has been steadily declining for several years now and if it wasn't for my measly RSP contibutrions, I'd be paying at the end of the year.

I agree, this tax is being rammed down our throats, and very noticeable on purchases and restaurants.
