dbPoweramp File Naming Strings
« on: 27 Feb 2013, 09:18 pm »
I am curious as to what others are using for their dbPoweramp's - or other ripping SW's - file naming strings.
I'm using the dbPoweramp's default string.
Right now my files look like this...

01 Sarah Jarosz - Run Away

Pretty straight forward and it's only 26 characters long.

My issue is when the artist + the song title is too long and the resulting Path Length is greater than 260 characters. I know it's hard to imagine but I have seen 260+ character Path Lengths from this naming string and as a result my NAS throws errors and misbehaves.

So what are other folks using?

track-  title - artist - album -length
Using NAS
I think I may have lost 1 or 2 tracks out of 20K+ due to length

I've run into quite a few over 260 characters and have changed my naming convention to:

Track - Title

The metadata reflects all other information.

I also ran into some problems with just using artist / title and long file names.

you can limit the length of artist or title or both by using the maxlength command

for example:

[album]\[track]-[MAXLENGTH]35,[title][]-[MAXLENGTH]20,[artist][]

Thanks for the info guys.
What I probably need are a few example strings and what they output.
I've never seen MAXLENGTH before and that might just solve my problem. But what does the result look like?

some Bach Box Set tracks I ripped with the maxlength settings turned out like this with the tack number, album, artist with album and artist truncated to keep file names within reason.

12-BWV 702 Das Jesulein soll doch mein Trost-Johann Sebastian Bac
