I'm in Germany for the next two weeks. Here's a brilliantly, colorful site... a Rapeseed field in full bloom at the base of several powerful Wind Turbines. The Germans are big on using wind power. The Rapeseed plants are grown for harvesting commercial oils that are typically used in industrial applications. In the States and Canada, we call the oil "Canola" oil. Good for engines, but not really good to eat. Rudolf Diesel would have loved this sight for use in his invention, the "diesel" engine, which was originally designed to run ONLY on vegetable oil! Think... homegrown fuel.  :thumb:

Nice image.  :thumb:

If it was tubes that would have been Sturgus. He just recently posted on the GAS Vinyl Crawl thread in the GAS regional circle. Should be able to pm him there.
Thanks, Scott.

Bside, nice shot.  My nephew lives near STL and I've yet to meet his fiancé.  If I were to come up, would you be willing to escort us, or maybe just me, to The Old Rock House or any favorite dive of yours?  Are you in touch with ??????.  Damn, man, I can't think of his moniker he posts so rarely these days.  He's a man of color and sold me a set of Matsushita tubes and loves jazz.  Maybe you can help put us together.

Jim, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you got Sturgus' name. I'm 2 hours outside of St. Louis across the river in Illinois. If you ever make it around these parts, perhaps we could meet up. The St. Louis guys would know a lot more about what's available in the city, even though I get up there fairly often. Take care!

Nice image, but I am struck by how different these deer look in the face from what you see on here on the west coast of Canada.

In the first shot I'm guessing the mule deer is on the left..........

In the mule deer shot, it stands alone. There is no "right or left".

As I headed into Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel.....golden hour
[kinda sci-fi-ish looking]

fujifilm X100 (fixed 35mm lens)
1/1100sec, f4.0 ISO 250
minor editing in lightroom

over the head shot (1 of 2 attempts), since a tree was in the way and I stayed on the sidewalk on the opposite side! ;)

Thank you Jim.
Since you're a fan of the deer, here's a couple more you might like. Taken in Montana/Wyoming in 2011.
Some were shot on the run and all the time I had was grabbing the camera, turning it on,
squeezing the shutter and manage to still drive the truck without wrecking it.
Some I had a bit more time. None are post processed.

Enjoyed viewing Bob, thanks for sharing.

What a gift it it is to enjoy all the beautiful creatures we share this planet with.

Took this one on Sunday, Pileated Woodpecker. Difficult to find and get close to.

Biggest dang deer I've ever seen! By local standards, that would be an adolescent female caribou....or something. I looked it up and mature female caribou do have (small) horns, unlike deer.

Thanks guys!
If memory serves, those deer were all within the confines of Yellowstone National Park.
...if that helps you figure out what they are exactly, for sure.

I don't have much wildlife in my photographic collection though.  :(

low.pfile: I love that time of day... some of my "favorite" light. Great image too! I would love to see more images from your Fuji X100. I am very intrigued by the IQ of that little camera. Considered buying it myself... more than once. Please post some more! Thanks.

Bside123 - I'm not low.pfile, but I can attest to the X100's IQ. Excellent little camera. My professional photographer friend lost his mind when he saw what the tiny little thing could do. Please keep in mind that I'm an amateur at best, so I'm still learning composition, lighting, framing etc. The following pictures are all of out of camera jpegs with no processing whatsoever. This is just an indication of what the camera can do despite the photographer:

I can provide shutter speed, f stop data etc. if needed. The nature pictures were all taken in Seattle under leaden skies with flat lighting and what can be considered tough conditions. Those pictures were taken by me with complete manual control - I set the ISO, shutter speed and aperture I wanted. The two pictures of the dogs were taken in full auto mode when I first got the camera.

Note that the X100 has a built in 3 stop neutral density filter that was a boon when taking long exposure pictures. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
