Hmmm. I just noticed some strange artifacts around the wires on this photo as it is posted here on AC. None of those aberrations are present in the original, nor on my Mac screen. Wonder what's up?

I see what you're talking about, but I just wrote it off as digital interferance, not a true photography "issue".

I didn't notice the artifacts (but I do like the pic) and still don't. But since I'm sure your original photo had to be re-sized to the above, the algorithm used can do that. The more you downsize, the more harm you can do to the original. And if it is done more than once by different processes, look out!

Agreed. It looks like one of those things you could drive yourself crazy over trying to fix, when the problem isn't even on your end.

Hey!

I'm using Mac. And yes I noticed this lately also. Most of my photos are on Flickr and when I link them on here I noticed it. Must the the codec issue or something here on AC.

Take care,

Those are JPEG compression artifacts. Your image is hosted on photobucket, it looks like it's fairly compressed. Since last September, the AC Gallery uses a lot less compression than it used to and also stores larger versions, so you could try uploading it here and see if that's any better.

If they have artifacts when embedded here and not when you view them on Flickr, then Flickr is compressing the files more when accessed from an external page. Try uploading them here and see if that's any better.

Also, resizing them on your computer to a web display size before uploading is always a good idea.

The comet PANSTARRS tonight from Central Missouri. Oddly enough it is all but impossible to see with the naked eye, but binocs and cameras can do the job.

Hi thunderbrick and all Audio Circle members.
WOW thunderbrick, that a nice picture.
What body and lens did you use to capture that rare event?

Hi all Audio Circle members.
I might be off topic (Not the first or last time)
or it might not be in the mood of the day,
but here are my pictures anyway.
Just want to show my humble portrait talent of my favorite top model: My wife, that is.
All the pictures were taken with my Nikon D200 with 18-55 mm F/3.5 lens with two (02) to (03) three Daylite brand studio flashes.
(Daylite Model KL-4D made in Taiwan – 300ws at 395 USD/each.
I am the exclusive distributor for Kuang Lin Industries since 1996 and I have sold more than 500 units.)
I use a mix of umbrella 32” dia. and soft boxes size 32 X 40” for shaping the light.

This kind of lighting is called lo-key lighting.
I have use one soft box for the main light, aimed directly at my wife’s face and one more light to separate the air from the black back ground.

Another lo-key lighting.
Same lighting set up but with a soft diffusing filter on the lens.

This different type of lighting is called:
Hi-key lighting.
I use here three (03) flashes.
Two with umbrellas on the white background
And one soft box as the main light at a 45 degree angle.
All the above picture were taken at F8 – 1/125sec.

I took this picture of us by putting the camera on a tripod
and using the self timer.
Again only two flashes.

To make nice pictures,
no need to always have elaborate lighting set up.
I am not a professional photographer, however,
I have been doing that hobby for the last 35 years.

Agreed, nice photos, Guy13.  I was quite surprised to discover just how hard portrait work is when I tried my hand at it.

Pete,

That is a stuning photo, at least for my tastes. Can you make a high quality print of that in your shop? That would be sweet on the wall in my cave. :)
