MiniDSP 8x8 card does not run at 96 khz

NB. See discussion below.

I wanted to mention this since I've had a couple of people say to me that they were going to buy the 8x8 card. Please be aware that the 8x8 card runs at 48 kHz. It is NOT a 2x8 with more of everything. For 2-channel use, you should be aware of this.

John,

I believe this depends upon the plug-in used, does it not?

Their summary page indicates 96khz operation is possible with the 8X8 board.

(click the 2x8, 8x8 Platforms tab.)

Yes, but the only available plugin runs at 48 kHz :)

Hm, well... perhaps it is possible to run the 4x10 plugin on the 8x8 card. But there would be no point...

John,

Check the plugins page:  (2x8/8x8 plug-ins tab)

http://www.minidsp.com/products/plugins

It's my understanding the 4x10 plugin will work on the 8x8 board and yield the 96khz operation (for two inputs only.)  If utilizing the 10x10 plugin then the sample rate capability is reduced to 48khz.

I believe the only difference between the two boards is population of hardware to support the extra inputs.  If a user doesn't envision a possible usage of more inputs than provided by the 2x8 board then the extra cost for the 8x8 board should not be necessary.

For some folks there might be no point, but for others maybe that extra versatility might be a useful feature.  :)

Anyways, I don't think the statement that "miniDSP 8x8 card does not run at 96khz" is accurate.

Cheers,

Dave.

Thanks Dave, just saw your followup post to mine. It seems very likely that are you are correct though.
