CD XLR o/p to TVC to RCA input of AMP
« on: 2 Oct 2006, 03:57 am »
Hi all,

If I use the tx102 for the volume attenuation and XLR conversion to the RCA to then feed the input of my amp, will I loose some of the benefits of the XLR outputs on my CD player? If so then I won't bother wiring the XLR inputs and extra input and output switch and just use the RCA outs of my CD player.

CD player specs:
S/N RCA=104dB, XLR=114dB
separation RCA>88dB, XLR>94dB
THD RCA=0.018%,XLR=0.010%

Thanks
Paul

Hello!

The MK III TVC does a really decent job of converting XLR to RCA or RCA to XLR . Getting it to do that well was one of the bigest design challenges! It is hard to predict if it will be 'better' to run it like this but if you have a source with XLR outputs that are taking advantage of the ballanced design (like your CD player likely does) then I would at least plan for it when designing the pre-amp layout and chassis.

Thansk!
